Chain stay protectors

Tubes work but perish after a short while.

The best solution I have found is this Alcolin silicone tape. Brilliant stuff, stays put, doesnt leave any residue on your bike, only fuses to itself, weighs nothing and costs R50, also comes in cool colours. The best part is you can wrap it right up to your BB to protect against chain suck damage which a std protector doesnt do. Saved my bike at Sabie this past weekend.

I have used a Self Vulcanizing electrical insulation tape as well. Only problem with this stuff is that if you don't wrap it triple layer after year or so you need to redo the tape as frame starts showing. Neoprene "Socks" is the one that i prefer if i am buying protectors. I would likely use a tube with the tape wrapped over it.

I saw a cheapie with velcro at sportsmans on the weekend, was a BBB and cost only R 75.. looked very strong

I bought one of these FOUR years ago. Stil works very well! Just remember to remove before every wash. Bargain!
