I have to go to Paarl for some unexpected business. I want to go ride (road rides) but I am still very unfit and prefer to ride alone. Which are good routes to ride? 1-2 hours daily.

Lots of good variations

1. Paarl towards malmesbury>4 way stop nelsons Creek>klupmuts>Delheim>paarl Mall>towards Huguenot tunnel toll gates> nederburg >paarl

2. Or after toll gates>swawelstert road>Dal Loop Road to diemersfontein>wellington>4-way stop>paarl

3. Can also go further on Malmesbury road and turn off to Paardeberg.

4. Up Bainskloof and back

5. Bainskloof>Slanghoek>Du Toits kloof

6. Paarl>Simondium>Bridge house school>wemmerhoek road back to paarl

Will try and post some kml files

Take note that some of those routes mentioned will not take you 1-2 hours unless you're Superman. So some more in line with those...

You can go around the mountain:
Out main road to Florida 4-stop, left on R44 to Fairview turn-off, where you turn left into, then left again when you hit the T at the R101(? - the Simonsvlei road). You can obviously also do it in reverse. Only narrow section of road is the section past Fairview/Spice Route.

Up Bains and back is about 2 hours. Up Du Toits and back... I'll have to check, but guessing that will take longer.

They are working on the road at Windmeul, so if you want to do the Voorpaardeberg loop, just take the middle road (at Sonop). You basically do option 3 as mentioned by pooks above and then continue to the first tarred road left, it is just after a rise at Sonop. (If you get to the prison, you're just past it!) Take that and you'll end up back at the R44. Needless to say, you can incorporate this into a lengthened Around the Mountain trip.

Lady Loch loop can be added to the above, or done on it's own if you have little time. Out on Malmesbury road, turn into Lady Loch turnoff and keep going. You'll end up back on the Malmesbury road. (Don't take the split off to the bridge, that goes to Wellington and not back to Malmesbury road.)

You can head for an out-and-back on the Malmesbury road.

For a longer weekend ride, you can go out past Wellington towards Hermon, turn off at Hermon, go straight and you'll encounter a little hill called Botmaspas (nothing major). Continuing straight will land you back at the Malmesbury road, where you turn left to go to Paarl. (Or right to sample some wine at Swartland, but since you're staying in Paarl, that should be sorted!) That's about 100k's, depending on where in Paarl you stay.

Many option for shorter rides. Give me a shout if you're wondering about some of the routes or referral points.

Or bring your MTB and hit Paarl mountain, Rheboks, Welvanpas...  :w00t:  :whistling:
