  1. When I read this thread my "groot verlang" back to ZA just shrinks down dramatically! This is sad.
  2. Some time in the forest this morning.
  3. These are part of the law here. With the aero bar the normal bells just won't work. But Canyon to the rescue. Will fit into the bar end of my road bars. Oh, and just FYI, you must carry positive identification with you at all times. If you are stopped for, e.g. no bell, your ID and address is used and you get a few points at Regensburg (Card Authorities). This is applied to your drivers license.
  4. Check what is included in the box. I have a small extension included with my pump. About 5cm long. This is to prevent damage to TPU tubes or (maybe) carbon rims due to heat (the last part is my analysis paralysis). ANYWAY, I will most probably use the extension in any case as it allows me to see the LCD screen better. Secondly, yes it is noisy! You are not going to use this in an apartment at 04:30 before a long ride without getting "death stares" from your neighbour for a week or 2.
  5. I am not based in South Africa but have order with "The Inn" (Bikeinn, Runnerinn and Swiminn). Service was decent even when I returned a product. They are based in Spain, so it is a bit more relaxed in terms of time πŸ˜‚. A good option (if the products are not blocked) is Bike24.com. Pricing wise the 2 suppliers are "hier bietjie goedkoper, daar bietjie duurder" but I have found Bike24 more responsive to issues and quicker to assist.
  6. Analysis Paralysis should have been my middle name! And also, with the wide range of decently priced products here I had to do some research πŸ˜‚
  7. The Gravel 45mm was to test the pump. No testing = no trust. The 32mm road tyres was after I seated the tyres and filled it with sealant (thanks @NotSoBigBen) and then inflated them to do the wiggle shake. As for Joburg glass, you have NO idea. It is Oktoberfest month and, even though you get deposit back for your empties, most roads close to venues are littered with glass. But hey, PROST!
  8. I have used mine for 2 tyre inflations on my road bike (both 32mm to 60PSI) and one tyre on my gravel bike (45PSI but a 45mm). I don't think I would get more out of the battery. I would also, most probably, have been able to do one more charge after helping the gent on the road. So the charge is not that bad. Charging happens with USB-C and I used my PC charger. Plug hom in en los hom. As to your question, is it better than bombs. In Germany the general public looks on bombs (day to day, not during a race) as unneeded waste (it must to be recycled), so everyone prefers the mini e-pumps. Personally I don't care. I just like the thought of not getting up and having an oh sh*t moment after forgetting to buy more bombs.
  9. Also, read up on how to use the pump. You have to follow a special process to "top-up" a tyre on the smaller pumps. Here is why How do they work? Also you can watch this video for some tests.
  10. Cycplus AS2 Pro
  11. Pick me! I ride with a Cycplus pump in the jersey. I have been lucky enough to not need it as yet but I have stopped to help another cyclist. He had a flat, replaced the tube and then realised his pump was not on the bike. No issues to get the wheel inflated. Tyre was a 650B and inflated to 45PSI (e-Bike). The only thing is that it is not waterproof (mine shipped with a ziplock type bag) and they get quite warm when used.
  12. Herfs is hier! Nat ride vanoggend maar HEL dit bly lekker.
  13. Nie alle maatskappy betaal so nie. Jy kan steeds die opsie kry maar moet dan self die 2/3 dra.
  14. In Germany we have the option to lease bicycles through our company. My company has the agreement that we pay 1/3 of the purchasing price, they pay 1/3 and then the government gives a 1/3 subsidy. This also helps a bit with the tax (my 1/3 is deducted from Gross, so no tax paid on my 1/3 and the company scores a bit as well because of employees riding). Nou ja, ek het die sommetjies gemaak and got 2 bikes. My absolute DREAM bike and a road bike. Downside, dream bike not ridable due to DT Swiss wheel recall. Maar dis ok. Dream bike! Spec: Canyon Speedmax, Ultegra Di2, 4iiii Powermeter and DT Swiss wheels (front is part of the recall, maar altwee moet ingaan). Maar die een kan (en het ek al) gery. Die skool vakansie het net begin (Duitsland joke, as die lang somer vakansie begin reΓ«n dit die eerste 2 weke) so ek ry nie nastenby soveel as wat ek wil nie! Spec: Canyon Ultimate, Ultegra Di2, 4iiii Powermeter and DT Swiss wheels (not part of the recall πŸ˜‚) And waxed chains…….
  15. This weekend we had SUN! Early mornings are still quite fresh though. Friday morning before work. Took the train to a new starting point. Rode a part of the Ruhrtalradweg.
  16. Lekker Matt!!! Congrats on the huge milestone. Jaaaaa, ek is ook een van die ou b***ies. Joined in September 2005. Ek dink hoeka dit was @Spinnekop wat my van daai ander forum kom red het.
  17. First non-commuting outdoor ride of this year. Still cold and overcast, maar dis hel lekker! At least it's not -14Β° anymore.
  18. Sunday cruise. But on the e-Bike.
  19. Commuting to work.
  20. Upgrade time! I made 2 upgrades to the e-Bike. The bloody plank that was on the bike to sit on was just not on. Daai ding het holles en knolles seer gemaak. En dan ry ek nou nog met 'n jean pant ook. So upgrade een was 'n nuwe saal. Die nuwe Selle Italia ST5 Flow is hemels man. Die holles en knolles se elke dag dankie. En MTB tyres vir commuting, nope, not on. I replaced the Maxxis tyres with a set of Schwalbe Big Ben Plus. The usual summer days are great! It is a quiter and more comfortable ride compared to the old tyres. Did a ride or 2 in the rainy weather as well and they do what they are supposed to. I would not go racing with them in the wet though. Taking the Maxxis off and putting these on were however quite a story. As my moeder my gehoor het tydens die proses sou my gat nou nog gebrand het!
  21. It depends on the trail owner's willingness to spend money and enforce the rules. The police in Netherlands have a machine to measure the power output of e-bikes. For the same reason as mentioned above (American e-bikes and "chipped" pedelecs). In Germany the police have a way of checking e-bikes although it is not scientific.
  22. I actually did yes (I have the scars as proof of Jhb commuting). But having to put out and then having to clean up after the ride was always a challenge, more so here. So the ebike is a comfortable solution.
  23. Very true sah. But at present I am fooling around to see how far I can go on one charge. Ek neuk eintlik rond. And what fun is it in any case to just sit on TURBO all the time when max assisted speed is 25km/h? o and btw, now that I have an ebike it’s PAYBACK time for the Oom, Tannie and everyone that was so cheerful while I was bleeding through my eyes on my analogue bike. The race is on b*tches!
  24. Bakkies, what I saw locally at Canyon is about R2500. This EXCLUDES replacement parts. I am not sure if the costs in SA will be about the same. This is what Canyon do. 1. Normal Hardtail MTB inspection And then
  25. Soooooo, day 2 of e-Bike commuting. The route to work is mostly downhill/flat. With the combined weight of my dikgat and the bike (they don't add SUV to the name of the bike for nothing) I found it quite easy to sit at anything from 27-36km/h, even on the flat parts. The assistance setting on the e-Bike at this stage was OFF. The plan was to keep my HR as low as possible but also to try and use as little of the motor as possible. I used the motor on TOUR+ (a bit more support than ECO) as soon as I saw the HR kreeping higher on the few upward kicks in the route. Comparing the figures from the Bosch app to rides previously done with my Garmin shows that the following figures are quite accurate. 7.4km ride, avg speed 21,4km/h (this however includes some stop/go "happiness" in town and here skipping the red lights is just not an option), ascent of 52m with average power of 156W (my output, not the motor) and an avg HR of 119bpm. As the road in the city itself is flat I switched the assitance to OFF. I found that commuters around me with assistance on had a huge acceleration. Een jonge dame het die ROOK uit my gery, maar ek het met die volgende stop gesien dat haar fiets op RACE is. It is quite nice to get to the office without looking like a just had a shower!
