Garmin forerunner 15 or 220 for running?

Can someone perhaps help me with this decision for a running gps watch?

I need a gps watch for the sole purpose of giving me the distance and pace.  I have no desire for the other fancy features, not even the bluetooth and wireless uploads etc.

So this time round I'm trying my best to stick to that requirements and buy with the head.

My only other requirement is a long enough battery life for whatever I may reach.  And here I see they mention that the 8 hours garmin promises is normally only 6.

So on the garmin 220 there is a promised 10 hours and the 15 a promised 8 hours.

Is there any reason why I should spend the R1,000 more and get the 220, whilst all I really need is the forerunner 15?

Yes, I know the polar M400 is a great little watch compared to the garmin 220, but the thing is I can get the garmins via Momentum at the following prices.

220 - R2,580

15 - R1,470

310XT - R2,190

Which brings me to the last question.  Obviously the old technology 310XT is a bargain at that price, but it is bulky and still way more than what I really need, which is the forerunner 15?

Am I correct in my thinking of sticking with the basic 15?

Don't know where you got those pirces but I am currently also investigating the buying of a gps watch. The best price I can find on the 220 is R3490 and the 15 for 2500 or something. I am getting a tomtom for 1999

Sorry! I see now you can get from Momentum. For what you want I would even consider the forerunner 10 which you should get for under 1000 if I look at the other prices

Yes, the 10 goes for R1,000.   But I thought I am willing to pay the R500 more for the HRM and the 3 hours more battery life?

I wont pay 1000 odd more for an extra 2hrs bud! Go for the 15 and just leave it docked after you downloaded your workout

What I was thinking. thanks!

I was in exactly the same situation as you 2 months ago and had the same watch models on my shortlist.

However, my dilemma was that in addition to ordinary road and trail running I also do duathlons and want to get into triathlons in the future. I opted for the fr15 as the 310xt wasn't discounted at the time otherwise I probably would have bought it instead (at that price I still might get one just for duathlons and tri).

As a pure running watch the fr15 is an excellent option and it does exactly what it says on the tin. So far I've found it to be very simple to use and it has ample battery life unless you're into ultra marathons, in which case you will definately need something beefier. It's also very light and can be worn as an everyday watch unlike the 310xt (the activity tracker functionality is quite useful too). It plays nicely with Strava and other online services if you're into that sort of thing. I would say that you can't go wrong with the fr15 if all you need is a pure running watch that has decent battery life and HR and GPS support. Oh and at R1470 it's a total bargain!

I got an FR15 yesterday for my birthday so I have no clue how it works etc. My plan is to get the additional speed/cadence pod for my trailbike, but now I see you say it "plays nicely with strava".

Hoe does that work?

Scratch that, I'm an idiot. It's the FR70 I got, which is more a training tool.

The 10 is waterproof..the others aren't...big plus in my book. I'm going to get one which will be fine for marathons..for ultras I'm just going to stick my Bryton in my back pocket and use the watch for splits
