MRP Stage fork

Not to be THAT guy, but if prices are similar I would always go with reputation and reliability.  The Pike has been the benchmark for the last year and a bit.  The Fox 36 is now moving ahead, but at a massive premium.

I shunned a Pike in favour of an X-fusion because it was a R4k difference in price.  Otherwise I would always have gone Pike.

Having ridden a Pike on a few of my local DH runs I am convinced the fork is an engineering miracle.

But if being unique is your thing, go MRP.  Just know that by the looks of it, as was the case with PYGA (and lately SC Nomads...rich people hey!), soon you won't be that unique. I think you should reserve comment until you have tested something and then make up your mind from reviews all the guys say the same thing,it's awesome and these guys have all been on a Pike already and in some instances they say its on par if not better than the Pike especially when it comes to small bump sensitivity.

I totally understand where you are comming from but the benchmark wasnt set suddenly because everyone was riding a pike, someone had to try it out and realise it was "the best", I think that is where this MRP fork is at the moment. Guys are trying it out and realising that infact the pike is not the one and only and I believe and I think the few guys that have ridden both are all saying that this fork is pretty much on par with the pike. The things that work in its favour I believe are:

1. Ramp Control Feature (patented by MRP) that isnt present on the pike.

2. Small bump sensitivity is on par if not ibetter than the pike

3. The major service interval on the MRP is almost 3x longer than that of the pike due to its exhaustive testing before it leaves the factory.

I would say that if you are someone who likes something different, I dont see why you need to go for the Pike, it isnt going to be the best forever and maybe people are already starting to realise it might not be (even if thats just 3 of us hahahaha).

Any way, im no expert but that is my rationale behind the Stage over the Pike.

Now all they need is a Air rear shock.

Is in test phase ;)

The guys who have reviewed it rave about it and all are saying its on par if not better in some cases.

and lets say you pressume it is on par with the pike, it still has the ramp control feature and service intervals that i reckon are outstanding plus points

I have recently bought a Pike (at a great price) & although it doesn't come with 'on the fly' ramp control it does come with 2 bottomless tokens which can be installed in about mins time. (24mm socket needed)

Just remember to deflate the air chamber :w00t:

What is the price on the stage?

I might be building another bike :whistling:

Ya no im not knocking the pike at all, its not called the best for nothing.

I dont know what Bibi's price is at the moment, you will have to PM him, he will be more than happy to help you out.

Now that would be a treat (one pike one MRP     ) doesnt get better than that.

P.S. I dig your Pat Morewood Quote, sums up pyga perfectly, I know that silly grin all to well (and this fork has just made it even wider :D ).

Nico ... how is the X-Fusion treating you BTW?

My Commi with freshly-installed MRP STAGE set at 160mm.

Cannot wait until I can ride again to test against the ubiquitous Pike :)

Initial impressions of build quality, features and pure feel are (as described by Luke and others ...) SUPERB!

Hey Hairy,

The XFusion Trace I fitted to my Pyga 110 is the bomb.

Set at 140mm travel it works brilliantly with the bottomless rear and eats up any trail features .... rock gardens, drops - tracks brilliantly.

If your 29r frame can handle the travel, you will never go back to less than 140 once you have tried it. Super stiff 34mm stanchions .... it's the business.

Very keen to try one of these MRP's. I gave Bibi's the parking lot test and have yet to try a fork as buttery smooth. It's definitely on the shortlist and if a couple of grand less than a Pike it's right at the top of that list.

Anyone interested in a FOX 36 TALAS 140 - 180mm that fits a 2.35 Hans Dampf 650B with mountains of space to spare? It's currently on my Pascoe...great condition and perfect for you heavy hitters out there. Heavy I am, absolutely, no arguing that. A heavy hitter? Unfortunately not, so looking for something a little less hardcore.

If I get that sold it's MRP for me.

According to google and some currency conversions. It looks like there could be a R2,000 difference in cost between the pike and stage.

its 1k more.

The Stage is also internally adjustable.
