Hi all

So summer MTB'ing is awesome.. Everything is green, you don't get clogged with dust, early mornings are already light and warm... But the soggy, thick mud clogging everything... And destroying the flow of the trail... Eish

What are some of your guys experiences with respect to the better 'drained' trails during these times, where some trails are just horribly destroyed by erosion and really put the Modder into Modderfontein....

I was actually kinda surprised this past weekend that the Spruit wasn't too bad...

I had a bad Modder experience a few weeks back. The trails were very overgrown, this is understandable due to the recent rains. Good news though - I have subsequently seen a few guys cutting back the growth where possible and cleaning up the trails.

I also recently took a ride around Big Red Barn and there were a few muddy sections, although not too bad considering.

Interested in seeing what others say.

Thaba Trails tends to drain quite quickly unless there has been sustained rain over a couple of days.

Stay away from Rietvlei when it rains. Whilst the blue trails are rocky, you have to ride through the mud to get to them.

Hakahana if you like the hurt. If you don't NF drains wellish. I rode heia this past weekend and it was fine.

Summer and mud go together. I rode Modderfontein, Heia, Wolwespruit , BRB and Rietvlei and have to say that they were all fine except for Rietvlei which was really muddy as opposed to just normally muddy.
