Greetings All

I recently sold my old MTB and after much research had pretty much settled on getting the 2015 Merida Big Nine XT Edition:

Now, for R2.5k more, I can get the 2014 GT Zaskar LE 9R Expert:

http://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/2014/bikes/mountain/xc/2014-zaskar-le-9r-expert

I like the look and feel of both bikes, but it looks like the GT has a better fork and wheels.

Not a competitive rider, so wondering if the extra R2.5k is worth it?

I got my 2014 GT Zaskar 9R Expert for a lot less than that - what is the "LE"?

Not Sure what the LE is, but this is the red/black combo and is listed on Obike.co.za as

"was R25K, now R20k".

Same bike as yours?

No, mine is green and black, I'll check the specs and see what diff the LE makes as the specs look almost identical to mine

I think the Green/Black one is the "Elite'? - listed on Obike for R15k....

Hows it been going with the bike though?

Loving it. Really happy with what I got, for what I paid (bit less than that quoted price)

Hey. I got the Zaskar Pro LE from 2012. The LE means slightly more aggressive angles, and my LE frame is 6069 aluminum as opposed to 6061, making it ever so slightly stiffer. But not a huge huge difference... The Zaskar LE is a responsive, agile and relatively light bike. You may find the Merida not quite as aggressive and light, but maybe a bit more forgiving.

my wife has a 2010 Merida. It's also a fantastic bike, built well.

Either ways, I think you'll be happy. But the GT is a touch more exclusive. But then again, I'm a touch biased. ;)

Having a good fork, and light, strong wheels does make a noticeable difference... That's without bias ;)

I can't speak of the performance of either bikes but looking at the spec difference, definitely worth spending the extra for the GT.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Nice detail Byron - even adjusted for the bias (GT profile pic and all.....)

Sola 1 has better components than the GT.

GT WAAAY better than the Merida, which basically just has XT on the "most visible" components with a much cheaper shock...

Edit: I'm lying, the GT has the best components.. :), Better than Sola 1

What has this got to do with this thread? seriously.

Go post in the classifieds. The 65i think is a flippin road bike, we are talking about GT and Merida mountain bikes.
