  1. Let us know what the price was at the Fox shop in Century City! Looking to get a pair myself.
  2. Hi all: Really looking forward to the "race" next weekend. Are there any surprises like gap jumps or large drop offs one should be aware of on the 37km, or can I gun the downhills?
  3. That is A LOT of money. five thousand grand!!
  4. I think it's a difference of definition. The OP states he wants an aggressive hardtail that can go 120mm up front with slack geometry. That's the answers he got, minus what some call "aggressive".. So maybe we should not associate aggressive with 2.0" tyres and speed, in this case but for an aggressive style of riding? Whichever way, just saying "I want an aggressive bike" confuses me. Is Avalanche aggressive? Certainly is if you only consider the name!
  5. I thought the same, until I recently bought Shimano Zee brakes. I'm chucking my Guide RSCs now and replacing all bikes with Zee
  6. Got one, was on the wife's previous bike. Has 400km on it so still new. I'd like something for it though.
  7. Have you had a look at the Meelu and Sloom options? I'm actually more interested in how they compare with the foam options from cloud9 than I'm into something from Simmons or other coil options.
  8. I'm leaning towards the Sloom, I'll go around a few shops today as well and hear what the salespeople has to say. Being such a large item it doesn't seem to make sense to buy an imported mattress (Simmons) and it seems like there's better value for money getting an expensive locally made Sealy rather than the Aussie import. But still, leaning towards the Sloom, you can adjust firmness on each side of the bed individually and they give a great warranty (25 years, much more than the expected lifetime of this mattress)
  9. Hi guys. So I'm in the market for a new mattress. It's ridiculous how many options are available out there... Each bed shop has their own naming convention etc.. I'm stumped. So how does one choose? We're currently on a firm Cloud Nine (No idea as to the model, it was a cheaper version after we got married, but we want to move to a queen bed) At this point, we've only got salespersons' talk. I feel like I'm being sold a Merida XT Edition "because it has a XT rear derailleur"... So any advice would be appreciated. I'd like to go a little more plush than "FIRM" but not excessively so - we're not 150kgs or 90 years old... I like the ideaof the Meelu and Sloom locally manufactured mattresses and I'm happy to pay a slight premium to support local, I just don't want to buy something for 2 or 3x the usual price because it's manufactured at some local place. Hoping some of you know your matresses!! PS - We've got a really nice and sturdy Incanca made bed with 10cm wooden slats and 4cm gaps in between, and I'll likely get a Protect-a-bed Therm-a-sleep Cloud mattress protector... Hoping for some good feedback, it doesn't yet exist in RSA...
  10. I've only ridden a handful of times, can you change it many times each day though? If so I won't mind doing it, otherwise I'm the girl going at 4w/kg.
  11. I'm unfortunately one of these cheaters on Zwift. Its set up for my wife (60kg, 1.65m) while I'm 95kg. So it does suck a bit but hey, I'm notpaying another R150/m for something I use for maybe 90mins a month. Would be great if they just changed the subscription options such that another user can log in from the same device or something along those lines.
  12. Hi Cois. My wife is a radiotherapist and deals with cancer daily. But at a private company and fairly upmarket clients. She also always says there's two types of cancer sufferers - first those who hates life because they were the ones to get it and not the next guy, theyre difficult and full of self pity. Some of these people do fight it but it's mostly not successful. Secondly those who seems like cancer is the best thing to ever happen to them. They accept it and fight it head on. We do a 5km survivors walk with many of them each year. Even those who don't survive leave a legacy unlike what they would have had they never contracted cancer. Your situation is a bit different but for some of these people they've had a safe easy, monotonous life for years and getting cancer is the flint that ignites them to live. Usually they inspire many around them to live each day to the fullest too. If "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is true, these are the strongest people on earth capable of anything. All the best my friend. Laat daai witbloedselle vandag daai kanker mamparras gas gee!!
  13. I actually rarely ride further than 30km and 1000m of climbing, I just want to get to the trailhead and go down! At the moment I just ride a 12km loop from my house the whole time with the new XCO line on Bloemendal included, I still need to conquer the large gap jump and the rock gap before the four consecutive drops then I can ride the full A-Line (which I think isn't a bad indication of skills) and from there I'll see where I go, maybe tackle Iron Monkey first and maybe one day the heavier stuff like Status Quo etc. So definitely more into enduro/trail, yet I did also do the CTCT MTB 60km on the same bike (Evil The Following I bought from T-Bob , WHAT A BIKE) So next will probably be a Magic Mary then. Thanks guys!
  14. Lol thanks for the reply. Must say I did notice on my last long ride at hooggekraal that my wife (yes eek) and brother in law seemed much stronger than I felt. Probably the rolling resistance. I don't really mind it on shorter rides (under say 50km or 1000m of climbing) though. I might get a second front wheel for long rides with a more XC tyre on if need be, but I love the ethirteen for now. The Germans only have the v1 at under r500, the v2 is over R1000. But then again they also have Magic Mary arou d r500 but it's the soft compound. I'll get something locally then when it's time to replace tyres.
  15. Sorry to sort-of derail this derailed thread again. What's the impression of ethirteen Trs tyres here? I recently swapped my ibex 2.4 to my rear and fitted the trs plus (the harder wearing dual compound) up front and it's been a revelation, no more freaking out in berms for a split second while I lose grip before the side knobs bite... I always thought its just me.. Thinking of bringing in some more as they're under r500 each after duties from Germany.
  16. Still not sure how you can ride those pressures. They just seem way too low, unless you never encounter rocks etc. But glad you like the upgrade, in my view the best upgrades are * Proper tyres, particularly the front (nice and grippy, at minimum Ibex 2.25) ** Dropper *** wide handlebar **** Proper brakes with the correct size rotors ***** Nice wide rims I'd rather ride the above on a hardtail with proper geometry than none of the above on Nino's bike
  17. I'm sitting here reading this, and can't help to think how it must suck to be the seller. No way on Earth he or anyone he knows can like him at all. Op may lose R1250 but this tjop needs to be himself for the rest of his life. Ek sny eerder my polse met n nat besluit...
  18. Where does this chop stay? Ridiculous to say the least. No one photographs items before sending them and if they're in as new condition, add clauses that they are sold as is. He's dodgy and should refund, I'm sure if these items are indeed in great condition he'd find a new buyer easy.
  19. Had this issue as well, changed the angle of my cleat and the issue was gone. Note we're talking VERY little change in angle, doing this is better than moving the cleat to the inside of your shoe since your weight stays in the middle of the shoe. But if that alone does not work, do both.
  20. Never been in a love/hate relationship before?
  21. 1.2 and 1.7 bar on a 18mm internal rim is incredibly low for your weight. Actually, that pressures on anything under 35mm is probably a bit low for your weight, unless you avoid big rocks, rock gardens etc!
  22. Carbon Bicycle Repairs in Durbanville can do it too. I know the guys at Trailtech up in Nelspruit always uses Ballistic Bike Armour in Durban.
