  1. Hi all: Really looking forward to the "race" next weekend. Are there any surprises like gap jumps or large drop offs one should be aware of on the 37km, or can I gun the downhills?
  2. Got one, was on the wife's previous bike. Has 400km on it so still new. I'd like something for it though.
  3. I'm Ron Burgundy?
  4. Hi Cois. My wife is a radiotherapist and deals with cancer daily. But at a private company and fairly upmarket clients. She also always says there's two types of cancer sufferers - first those who hates life because they were the ones to get it and not the next guy, theyre difficult and full of self pity. Some of these people do fight it but it's mostly not successful. Secondly those who seems like cancer is the best thing to ever happen to them. They accept it and fight it head on. We do a 5km survivors walk with many of them each year. Even those who don't survive leave a legacy unlike what they would have had they never contracted cancer. Your situation is a bit different but for some of these people they've had a safe easy, monotonous life for years and getting cancer is the flint that ignites them to live. Usually they inspire many around them to live each day to the fullest too. If "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is true, these are the strongest people on earth capable of anything. All the best my friend. Laat daai witbloedselle vandag daai kanker mamparras gas gee!!
  5. I actually rarely ride further than 30km and 1000m of climbing, I just want to get to the trailhead and go down! At the moment I just ride a 12km loop from my house the whole time with the new XCO line on Bloemendal included, I still need to conquer the large gap jump and the rock gap before the four consecutive drops then I can ride the full A-Line (which I think isn't a bad indication of skills) and from there I'll see where I go, maybe tackle Iron Monkey first and maybe one day the heavier stuff like Status Quo etc. So definitely more into enduro/trail, yet I did also do the CTCT MTB 60km on the same bike (Evil The Following I bought from T-Bob , WHAT A BIKE) So next will probably be a Magic Mary then. Thanks guys!
  6. Lol thanks for the reply. Must say I did notice on my last long ride at hooggekraal that my wife (yes eek) and brother in law seemed much stronger than I felt. Probably the rolling resistance. I don't really mind it on shorter rides (under say 50km or 1000m of climbing) though. I might get a second front wheel for long rides with a more XC tyre on if need be, but I love the ethirteen for now. The Germans only have the v1 at under r500, the v2 is over R1000. But then again they also have Magic Mary arou d r500 but it's the soft compound. I'll get something locally then when it's time to replace tyres.
  7. Sorry to sort-of derail this derailed thread again. What's the impression of ethirteen Trs tyres here? I recently swapped my ibex 2.4 to my rear and fitted the trs plus (the harder wearing dual compound) up front and it's been a revelation, no more freaking out in berms for a split second while I lose grip before the side knobs bite... I always thought its just me.. Thinking of bringing in some more as they're under r500 each after duties from Germany.
  8. This. I really enjoy the Lombards SCO climb as well as the climbs on the new XCO course, although they're very tough and pushes my heart rate to the point that I need to stop at the top or risk falling on the A-Line due to fatigue! I don't even feel the Lombard's climb, in contrast to the 21m elevation of "the gorge" on Hooggekraal - love the down, HATE the up.
  9. Is there any place in Cape Town Northern Suburbs where I can try a helmet on?
  10. So I've been banting for about 3 months now, and recently found that Stellenbrau beers has NO CARBS: http://stellenbrau.co.za/nutritional-value/ So my question - do you guys know of any other zero or very low carb beers? Icouldn't care less about anything other than carb content.
  11. Awesome event. I just wonder given the recent fires on Paul Cluver if the route will be changed, or whether Paul Cluver may be rebuilt by then.
  12. Yeah the new Meridas finally look relevant, just don't know if I can bring myself to like them for some reason, I'd likely buy that and just spray the frame all black, or at least remove the logo. No reason for it, just really don't like Merida - probably because something like their "XT Edition" bikes only ever had XT shifters and RD, which was just annoying.
  13. New set of ODi Rogue Bonus pack going to the classifieds soon
  14. Cool please do! As far as I remember you're also sitting with an asbestos roof, so just consider that when deciding whether to mount solar panels to the roof. (Older asbestos tiles can break when stepped on and is notoriously difficult to stop from leaking afterwards - I just had my roof painted - ws R30k paint or R200k replace with cliploc - what a nightmare the painting was - Got roof rats to vacuum the roof first as well)
  15. Let me know once you've done proper research on a solar pool pump and grid attached electricity. Seems Cape Town charges R400 a month to tie in to the grid and your meter doesn't oll back for units you pump into the grid. Solar pool pumps - as far as I know this is essentially just a mini solar electricity system meant to replace some of the power the pool pump draws - just called something fancy. https://www.sustainable.co.za/solar-900w-pool-pump-kit.html - this one has a pool pump included but it's sort of pointless, you could rather just use the electricity for your pool pump and replace other aplliances' electricity with solar panels. Else it does nothing if the pool pump is off. Anyway, I was hoping there'd be better progress with solar roof tiles or something. (Got an asbestos roof that I'd like to replace at some point in time)
