sidewinder - dont worry - no one knows what stages we are using in their entirety so it sort of levels the playing fields a bit,.

There will be some pedalling, some skidding, some whooping, some airtime, some grins, and some mud. AND some k@k off to get back up! .... But all in all a ton of FUN ....

I still don't get why people want to practice enduro stages. Does it really matter if some locals know it better? That's kind of the benefit of being a local (and putting work into the trails). Hitting a stage blind is surely a lot more of a thrill?

I like to have at least 1 practice run so I know what is coming, I can't risk crashing these days as you all know.

and yes because I am trying to beat those locals

Naturally, I just hope the format doesn't lose the element of fun that has defined it so far.

The element of fun that has defined it so far is open to interpretation. Revert back to "different strokes" :)

You get an exemption, if you crash again we will have to rebuild you from the parts of lesser riders. I have a spare shoulder.

I am with Peach on this one....

a sighting run to avoid any nasty surprises.... although by nature enduro shouldnt really have any life ending obstacles.... all obstacles are generally within the scope of the average technicially proficient rider and manageable on run of the mill trail bike

one thing (among many) i have to give hakahana is how well marked the enduro was....

not only in terms of not getting lost but in terms of approaching an obstacle blind.....

for example GAP.... or DROP....  probably saved alot more helicopter rides to hospital.

so it was clear well in advance of what the obstacle had in store..... and if you werent comfortable on gaps you went the other way.... as you could see and make out the sign with time to make up your mind.... great way of keeping huck to deaths to a minimum and keeping the numbers on bikes coming back.

and due to the nature of the growing sport and limited infrastucture and resources we will mostly end up racing on existing trails..... and thus therefore ergo the locals will get an upper hand simply due to knowing the lay of the land.....

but fear not.... if you ride a local trail and we race it one day you too will be a local and have an advantage on the day.

That's all I ask Nige, you can keep the pedaling tho.

When it comes to Practice - we would like to go towards the EWS format where there is "designated" practice days, BUT that means okes having to get there days before and taking time off work etc. ....

So what we are looking at in the future is putting out short videos of sections of the trails that we think are dangerous so that people can view them and try and pick lines etc. We will say what stage it is in so that riders know that somewhere in this stage there is X ....

Otherwise if we put up stages in advance we have guys practicing flat out like at Karkloof. Which SUCKS .... Everyone should ultimately have equal opportunity. So that means designated practice days where the tracks are taped etc and guys can RIDE ... NOT SHUTTLE (NoFearNoFun!!!!!  ) the tracks as per race conditions! ....

But this also means more logistics and more time that I need to take off work, which I cant really do as I would like to have some leave left at the end of the year to have for myself.

So I think the best thing is to have 3 hours of practice on the Saturday morning, where we say "we think you should go and look at Stage X and Y" so dont worry about A and B ...

Then you run some blind, and some viewed .... thereby opening it for everyone to their own interpretation, but at the same time being sort of equal playing fields between the riders.

I have just put in leave for the 20th, I hope will will be allowed to ride the trails on the Friday.

I dont care about "training for the race" I just want to ride the trails in general.

I have no other commitments for that weekend (for a change) other than riding my bike, so I am really looking forward to 3 days of riding which is long over due, I hope it will be allowed.

Hayley you are more than welcome to ride the trails in the park.

I will be marking trails all of Friday, so you can come and get some tips if you give me a hand with taping ....

Hahaha! If I had a shot of even coming close to podium I would have a completely different approach to what I have now.

I am only pro shuttling because of the time climbing takes away from the fun stuff. Yes climbing should be done but when you travel 5 hours to go ride awesome trails I would rather shuttle and get 5 to 10 runs in a day instead of ride the climbs and get 4 runs in.

Then again, I am not trying to get more runs in so I can try win... I am trying to get more runs in because I just want to ride my bike down a hill as much as I possibly can
