Garmin repair/replacement policy

Is it just me, or does R1700 to replace a faulty (leaking) 910xt sound excessive? No option to repair it. I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer to have it repaired at a normal price. I understand it's out of warranty, but still, would be nice to have a 'reasonable' repair option.

(The only other option is an 'upgrade' at R5500 for the 920xt, which I could buy at close to that price anyway AND keep my faulty 910xt, if I had the money lying around.)

Who did you get this price from?

My Edge 500 was faulty, i then went and spoke to Philip Silvester at NavWorld in Centurion, 012-665-0855,

Unit 2 Oxford Office Park, 3 Bauhinia Street, Highveld Techno Park, Centurion, Pretoria.

He then gave me the option of upgrading to the FR 910XT @ R2750 or the Fenix 2 @ R3100, i subsequently chose the F2.

Give him a shout, i am sure he will be able to help out.

I went to NavWorld in Strijdom Park. A friend with a faulty device (vibration has died) was told the same prices as me.

Was your unit under warranty still maybe? When did you go?

Yes my unit was only 5 months old. i went 3 weeks ago after having some disagreement with the people at strjdom park.

drop Philip an email and who knows, maybe just maybe he can help. They do take some time to reply to emails though, up to a day. but i have found that if i phone after a few hours to check if he has received it that he generally replies promptly.

EDIT: Hope you come right, let me know

Thanks ScottC-M. I've emailed them. I think the warranty makes a big difference though. My unit is already 3 years old I think.
