Ha ha, a sandy stretch between the vineyards these two makkers pushed the people. The one started pushing me, helped a bit. He asked me for "tjokkelitz" and as soon as I repleid I ate them all, he stopped pushing. I shoulve told him that I would give him some after the sandy bit....

Disappointed, but really glad to learn of this unfortunate event. We definitely need to address this! (See my response at end of page).

Thank you so much for your support, we really appreciate it.

My first time doing this event. Awesome route (46km). Biggest battle was the heat!

I agree that the organisers need to look at an earlier starting time, at least for the 46km as mentioned above. Around 7 - 7h30 should be fine.

Why not look at a camping option at the venue? (tents only) I see there were showers..

Had a great weekend, good community vibe to this race afterwards!

We camped just down the road on the river and made a weekend of it.

Unfortunately my race was ended when I snapped derailleur hanger and didn't have a spare. Cheers to the guys (Dan, Nick, Wilhelm - sorry if names wrong) who tried to convert me to SS to finish the race. Unfortunately it was impossible to get tension right, so I had to freewheel back down at the escape route and then run that last ~6km on the flat back. So I had a mini duathlon in the end haha.

Snap, my Family ended up staying at Fynbos Guest Farm, very well kept camping spot.

I have some video that I need to try and clean up from my Action cam that I will upload to youtube and link here. I will see if I feel like including my tumble too

Carlen your Welcome to link it to the Facebook page too.

Fantastic to get all the feedback and especially the ones where we can better! We have a feedback session Friday and I will race all the concerns, especially about the children, it definitely needs to be addressed.

The sandy tracks were definitely more this year, primarily because it is really dry and we desperately need some rain.

Regarding the starting time, we have this discussion each year, and yes it is to accommodate the masses from Cape Town, but we are considering a earlier start with the with 47.9km (46 ;-)) at least! (Regarding those distances.... I'll have a chat with the organisers.)

One of our parents took some photographs and you are welcome to check out the Facebook page and see if you were snapped. Please tag yourself, we would love to get to know our riders! Link: https://www.facebook.com/BREEDEMTB/photos_stream

Over all glad everyone enjoyed the race and yes it is challenging! One of my friends did the Cape Epic this year and says stage 5, which is our 46km, was the toughest part of the whole Cape Epic for him. So well done to you all for competing and COMPLETING!!

Please if there is anything else you would like us to address or want us to add to the event, let us know. We grow in numbers every year and like to add something new to the event each year!

Sorry for missing the questions prior to the race about the routes, thank you for helping each other.

Hi Carlen,

I enjoyed the race a lot, the route is tough but nice. Could have more single track, but that is obviously always the case.

Also was begged on by the kids but no incidents. This indeed should be dealt with via some education.

The venue setup was brilliant, but unfortunately we had to leave before 12 and couldn't wait for the Potjes to be finished. Maybe have them ready a bit earlier next time.

Definitely start the long route a bit earlier. 730am or 8am at the latest.

Cheers,

S

Would love to link that video! Please send us the URL! Think there is evidence of you running without a bike to the the end!

Hi Johan!

Thank you for the feedback we will have a discussion about that starting times.

Since we are doing a fun night drive on the Friday night, we actually do have a camping option. Sorry you missed it.

Dankie vir n great event .

Carlen, in spite of the kids, heat and dust it was a great event.

These were out of your control.

I left Cape Town at 5H40 and had plenty of time to fuel up, a breakfast, a chat, collect my sticker and to still have a 10km reckie of the route before we set off.

So I am all in for an earlier start.

Ek like die later begin. Die hitte is soos die sand. So what!
