Not around the corner but definitely worth a drive for a weekend if you are a DH fundi ......... Afriski has lifts in place and an awesome bowl where on can build anything you want. Its a 4 hour drive from Jo'burg but once you are there its a weekend of mayhem.

Guys drive up to ski so I cant imagine downhillers not to have that same kind of commitment.Embarrassed

If you've never ridden Lesotho you dont kow what you are missing. Has an amazing stretch of tarmac for roadies too. Hill climbs of note.

its at lourensford farm... 5km from home Big%20smile

Is that still happening? I heard it was postponed, and then they found a new site, and then nothing. I think it's Craig Marshall's project. The guy who tried to get the mountain cross thing off the ground in Eden. He runs a bike school or something.

Oja, I agree with the idea of a separate place for the wilder mtb guys to chat.

hm sounds interesting' date=' what the riding like and do you know what it costs to use the ski lifts?

No idea. You'd have to do some homework here. Try afriski.net

This is just up the drag from Club Maluti www.clubmaluti.co.za and is where the Wits Ski Club go. Anybody had a few drinks at their clubhouse at the Varsity? Anyway, have a look and if you need, PM me and I can put you in touch with some people who go up there regularly. The beauty here is that the mountain is your oyster. Nobody will stop you doing anything as long as you dont build a permanent structure.

I support a sub-forum.

Would be great to share freeride info in the rest of the country.

The chair lift in vail cost us $50 for a day pass and it was packed every day in the summer.

If you don't want to use a chair lift then the old tractor and trailer to the top of the mountain is not a bad way to do it.

dirtbreath' date=' just had a look at the club maluti site. looks interesting. when do you reckon is the best time of year to head down that way?[/quote']

It all depends on what you want to do. Skiing is best in winter!Embarrassed Although they do have grass skis but I dont think the grass slope has been manicured for some time, or since Afriski has set up a slope with snow machines.

For cycling, anytime in summer is fantastic. I have never personally ridden up there but have done quite a bit of 4 wheel driving and hiking.

The road from Moteng through Oxbow to Mokhotlong is an amazing tar road in brilliant condition for roadies. Moteng Pass is something I would swing my leg over a road bike for.

There arent too many groomed trails but you can find some donkey/shepherd trails.

Was chatting to some mates about doing a trip up there so when plans get further down the line I will let you know.
