I would prefer to do gravel, distances per day in the region of 80 - 110km. Camping / B&Bs would be fine. Any direction would be great... I'm also keen on the weekend trips

I actually planned a trip for April. which everyone backed out of due to circumstances.
500km-5 Days | Jeffreys - Baviaans - Knysna
It worked out around R1700 p/p for 5 nights accommodation. if anyone is keen on that, we can certainly do it.

That trip sounds good, unfortunately i am busy with something else at end April.

I was looking more at trips that take a little bit less organising, time and money, hence the "from Pretoria, out and back" label.

That was more a side note....

I'm totally keen on pretoria and back trips! This means we would be able to do it cheaper, and more often

Looks too legit!

I have never done anything like this before. I'l have to start building a rack for my bike... :w00t:

TIP from a fool... the less the better!!!  we learned the hard way!

Was considering building the rack but ended up buying from Cycletouring... not cheap, but its equipment that will last for years!

When I say off road it would probably more like gravel. Your point is taken, so if there was a lot of off road i wouldn't aim so far. Not technical stuff as my hybrid has no suspension and panniers. When you say platteland do you mean the free state. I would be keen to organize a trip soon before winter comes.

Anywhere away from Pretoria/Johannesburg, but not too far.  Don't want to be travelling 4 to 5 hours just for a week end ride

Agreed!

That being said, the last trip we did, we took the train to Nelspruit, then cycled back from there, was different, but worth the 10hours on the train

Now that's an interesting variation. Weren't you worried about damage to the bikes?

Thanks for the links, i don't see much evidence of tours on them.

And race for better hearing tour happens every second year in ZA every other year it’s in Switzerland. Also starting from the same cycle club. So this is what the rest of the tours/training camps are all about

A suggestion.

For next weekend, leave saturday morning (28th)  at 7, ride to Mountain Sanctuary in the Magaliesburg (90km), camp overnight and return Sunday 29th to Pretoria.

Takers?
