What bike size for a 7 year old

Hi all, I have 2 boys ages 6 and 7 (average height) recently moved up from 16" bikes to 20" bikes. However, the 7 year old can ride a 24" bike we have at home. He is comfortable on it and is confident....The seat is down and his feet touches the ground. I am concerned that the bike may be big for him and that he should stick to the 20". Will the 24" hamper his development or will it be fine. They love cycling so want to encourage them to stay with it.

All advice is appreciated, thanks.

My son is a tall 6 year old. (Turning 7 in July)

He has been riding without training wheels since he was 3.

He is now riding a 20" Momsen. This is one of the lightest bikes available. I recently upgraded his Giant 20" as it was a very heavy bike.

There is a lot of adjustment left on the Momsen and he will probably still be riding it for 2 - 3 years. I've changed the gripshift on his bike as it was hard for him to change gears. (Will post photos later)

(There is one available on the Hub.

To me the weight of the bike is very important - a rigid fork is adequate as most suspension forks just add weight.

My son's friend is the same age but not as proficient. He started riding on his older sister's 24" Titan as he is now too big for his 16".

He falls about 4 times on every ride as the bike is just too big and heavy for him.

Thanks An3....looks great....They have a Silverback and Trek 20"....will look at that option to convert the gripshift

.... I must just add that after seeing his friend on a 24", he suffered from size envy for a for a few minutes.

He changed his mind after witnessing all the wipeouts.

Try the Titan. They make a bike with a 24 inch frame and 26 inch wheels. My boy is 8 and it will last him for ages.

The Titan 24 9R  looks like an option for my son in a year or two's time.

They do not publish the weight. Have you weighed it?
