Shimano Brakes...

Also check whether you are using resin vs sintered. Resin pads build up heat much quicker because they bite harder, but cant dissipate it and so fade quicker. They are also very prone to being ground to paste in 40 km of mud riding. Mud seems to make the compound used in resin pads disintegrate irrespective of whether you are braking.

Possibly a faulty batch. Are both pads the same material 9you didnt possibly mix them up). That would cause uneven wear as well.

I have ridden Ice tech for years now and am a big boy - with no problems. But you may just have had a faulty batch.

Be thankful you didn't have this happen on the first stage of the Epic within 10kms of the start like I did....

Ja, I can imagine. All pads are the same material, they came with the XT brakes, so I'm assuming Shimano didn't poke that?

it may not be rocket science to bleed brakes but if not done correctly and the caliper has a lazy piston as a result you'll have poor brake performance and chase your tail trying to trouble shoot it.

That is what happened to me during Day 1 of the Epic in 2006 (mentioned below). I think grit got in to the pistons seized the one out (it was very muddy).

Result: a brand new (resin) brake pad gone in one long descent. And 120km to cover sans front brakes.

Bitter learning curve to say the least.

Its never happened again and I haven't head of it often. It was Shimano XTR's but it wasn't their fault. The conditions were incredibly bad to say the least
