tow bar

Hi Guys

So in my previous post I was convinced that tow bar is the way to go. I have an e90 320 with motor plan. Will a non bmw tow bar affect the warranty/motor plan or can I fiT anything. Also in terms of electrics since I will never tow a trailer is it necessary to get done or could I save not having the electrics done?

What should I budget for a towbar and who would you recommend?

For a lot of the Tow bar fitted bike racks you may need the electronics as they also have the additional lights/number plate

For your warranty question, it is better to check with the dealership to put your mind at ease

Ive also got the E90 with towbar.

I decided to go with something removable. Do not like the look of those ugly bosal tow hitches that sit there forever.

BMW sell what they call an execuhitch. Good hitch. Ridiculously expensive.

I looked around on some of the motoring forums amd found myself a never fitted E90 westvalia towbar. This was a awesome find as I only paid R1500 for it. Another R1500 for fitment and a wiring loom and I was set to go.

Its better to have it connected so all the lights etc work. Yeah I know you can see they tail lights through the wheels. But that story aint going to work like a fire pool being a security measure story works.

If you in Pta I can suggest a guy that sells removable after market towbars. Its not execuhitch or westvalia. Name has left me now. Its still pricey but hugely cheaper than BMW.

Let me know if you want pics if my installation.

I also drive an E90 and fitted the removable towbar, best decision ever. You don't say where you're based, but if it's close to Pretoria PM me and I'll let you know where you get one fitted. AFAIK these guys do the fitting for BMW.

Just be careful of bosal towbars...i thought they were the best until i purchased a vehicle with one fitted...the tow hitch is good quality....its the electrics/ electronics you need be very careful. of...bosal sub contract their wiring looms to various sub contractors....one of the companies has a defective electronic unit...it cost R1200 + to replace the unit...you can keep reseting it by removing the earth wire from the body of body of vehicle...what a mission.
