My 2 cents for the day:

If you know what you are looking for, and what the average retail price is Solomons is a good place to go bargain hunting, Alone also gives good service.

With regards to Hotspot, people are friendly, prices are fair and service is very good.

I have found Lynnwood Cyclery (much like Spaz  ) to be a bit expensive, however Erwin (in the workshop) goes out of his way to help you! So if you don't mind paying the bit extra it is definitely worth it!

Do not forget about Hatfield cycles, they gave me the best deal on Gaerne shoes, I bought the carbon shoes and they were R200.00 - R300.00 cheaper than any other store.

In short my view:

Solomons: Only for bargain hunting

Hotspot: Overall cool shop, good service and good prices

Hatfield: Good service (especially after sale service), good prices

Lynnwood Cyclery: Extremely good service, bit pricey tho

I would recommend you take a Saturday morning and go bikeshop hopping, scout prices, quality of service etc.

Was just about to mention Hatfield Cycles. Not so much in the east anymore but if your willing to travel to Bruce's shop you might as well drive past and have a look at Hatfield.

Great little shop with people willing to help and have decent prices as well.

Hatfield cycles .Knowledgeable staff and they won,t try to sell you rubbish .Their selection might be smaller ,but they only keep stock  that work and have backup for it

I think it all comes down to luck and your own attitude.

If you receive *** service from a bike shop in PTA east, where there is 5 other shops just in Lynnwood road alone. The odds are you wont return, and you'll take your money elsewhere (period.)

But recommendation wise FWIW -

1. Hotspot for bikes (if you don't want a Specialized)

2. Lynwood Cyclery for their workshop (Ervin/Nols/Jason are top notch)

3. Solomons if you need a tube/stans/socks/GU etc.

4. And to through another spanner in the works - Easybike or CWC from the comfort of your own home for major parts (such as wheels/groupsets/brakes)

- Bruce's have a nice variety but they have a attitude problem of note.

- Hatfield if you want a Pyga.

- Singletrack if you live in the far east and to lazy to drive the extra 4km to hotspot.

I have tried most of the shops in Pta East. Always end up back at Hotspot. Service I am not sure about reckon I will give Torqzone a go for that.

Walked into The Bicycle Company shop at Lynwood Bridge today with a credit card willing to be violated...........could have made a quick.sale in less than 15min..........and then nothing happened........from exciting to useless in less than 5 minutes.

Hotspot was however the place to be.......and they made it schweet, sexy and hot.......with brand dazzling spanking new models on the floor, some bling-bling extras and personal attention........20k violation with a smile.

Sorry BC-boys........maximum of 5% discount only applicable to club members is definitely not a sale clincher on already overpriced and old stock.........btw, the free first service and fit sales talk is quite useless if the customer is better informed than the sales "appie".
