HI Guys

Sorry if this question has already been posted or if its silly. Can track wheels be use on road? I referring to the 3 and 5 spoke carbon wheels.

Not suitable IMHO. I come across so many track wheels with the threads for the sprocket stripped due to aggressive hop-skid braking. Older hubs were not meant for this rough treatment even with lock rings attached.

Track rims normally don't have any braking surface for calliper brakes.

Tubbies not cheap and not very good at skidding.

But hey, everyone is doing it, so bow to the fashion mate.

I agree with loose cog.  Backpeddling to try stop and control speed, combined with not being able to freewheel and having no brakes is asking for trouble on steep downhills.

The thought of riding my track bike in the street scares me more than a sprint on the track with elbows bumping the person next to you.

It depends on the wheels. Can you use brake pads on them?  I have ridden my previous single speed track bike on the road but fitted a front brake and also freewheel sprocket on the rear hub. Fixed wheel is way to hectic if youre doing miles but around the block and down the road its fine. I have ridden without a brake and fixed wheel on the road and its not fun at all when there are steep hills. But I suppose the more you do it, the easier it gets. If the wheels can be used with brakes then you can also convert the rear hub to a road hub on some wheels and make a nice road set.
