Howdy Hubbers,

In the Marker for a new Road bike, and cant choose on what to do. So any help/info would be appreciated.

Looking at the following :

1. Specialized Roubaux 2015 - Full Ultegra etc. Standard R35k

2. Merida Reacto 5000 2015 - Full Ultegra etc. R25k

I am riding a 2000 Giant TCR, 9speed. Do i upgrade the bike with wheels and new groupset, or do i rather go for above?

Help please

Hi i can only comment on the Merida Reacto. Im riding the Reacto 4000 and it is brilliant the position is a little more aggressive so a bit more strain on the shoulders but should only be a problem after 140km or so. and the aerodynamic advantages are felt on the flats and decents its a pretty heavy bike for serious climbing but i feel the advantages out weigh the disadvantages. its a no brainer between the merida and the specialized R10 000 is allot of money for some branding just saying.

I'm not an expert at all, but for R35k you can probably get a top end  wheel set that would benefit you a lot more.

I'm pretty sure your LBS would tell you the same.

If you're willing to blow that much money on a bike there's plenty of options you can consider.

One can pay a thousand bucks more & get the Giant propel instead of the Reacto (IMO it's a better frame in terms of aero, weight and geometry)

hi

i would suggest you compare the frame geometries as these bikes will handle differently.

Roubaix is touring kind of bike, more relaxed geometry.

not sure about the merida but i think its more race geometry bike similair to your giant.

also key to ask which one has the better resale value

look at the types of rides you enjoy and then choose your bike based on frame spec.

or as suggested above upgrade your wheelset at a third of the costs.

Bikes are still made of carbon fibre, they have just changed shapes and tube sizes but the basisc shape still the same last time i checked.

I think 35k is an obscene amount of cash on a road bike when one at 20k will do pretty much the same thing but thats my opinion.
