I have a set of Ultegra Tubeless wheels.

I have used a tubeless Tyres before, but due to a lack of affordable training tyres i am using normal tyres with Tubes,

I have just installed a normal tyre without the tube, but am afraid to venture out with it, so my question is can you use a normal tyre on tubeless rim without a tube.

Thanks Guys

Can you explain the principle behind this?

why would a tube make a difference, the Tyre is held on my the tyre beading, and stays in place with the outward pressure of air, same as a tube

I have been using Vittoria Rubino Pro3 tyres tubeless for about 2 years. Haven't had any problems.

Thanks Jonkers, If i am correct these tyres are no rated Tubeless but you use them tubeless anyway?

Yes. The idea of tubeless is to run lower pressure. I weigh 73 kg and run 85 psi at the back and 75 in front. Been down Helshoogte numerous times at full speed with absolutely no problems. You will have problems if you try and run them at high pressure. There is no increase in rolling resistance at the lower pressures, just a nice smooth ride with increased grip.

The difference between tubeless tyres and non tubeless tyres is the type and shape of the tyre bead.

A tubeless tyre bead is designed to pop into and seal tighter with the rim as well as the tyres generally having a tighter fit on the rim.

sealant?

Surprised it holds, I experimented on a Conti tire but the tire couldn't hold the air.

Yes,with sealant. It loses a bit of air in the beginning but after 2 or 3 rides it is fine.
