If you are unsure about your fitness or lack confidence, do it with a tailwind or downhill

But take your turn

It's a good thing.

I'll definitely take my turn.  I cannot not work.  But I'll wait about 20km for my legs and heartrate to find their rhythm without frying them.

The way I see it, the first part of the race there are always a few heroes with more testosterone than common sense, I'm happy to let those suckers volunteers do the work upfront until we get to the first proper climb of the day.

 

The aforementioned climb will quickly tell you if you are a pigeon or a statue in the group on the day, if the latter then I stay away from the front and pray I can hang on shamelessly as long as possible. If the first then i will slowly drift to the front and start helping out for short bits in an attempt to drop the statues from the group.

It does depend on your group and how your legs feel on the day. During the Knysna Argus I took a turn on the front before we even passed the cliffs (a good while before the bridge) and again when we crossed the bridge and that was ok. I stayed with the group until almost at the end (had gear problems) and worked a lot that day. But Yesterday I couldnt keep up...

Two guys in A bunch went down in first few km due to some cones in the road. Anybody know if they were ok? Does putting cones in the road ever work?

no never , put a cone in the road as a warning and it will be hit. when will the ppa learn. its like putting a turn left arrow in the middle of the hard shoulder. no brains
