The Tour of Legends mountain bike stage race took place in the Waterberg in South Africa’s Limpopo province this past weekend and the winners were, well, everyone that entered. The unique event heralded a new era in mountain bike events that’s expected to grow as the sport continues to mature. An event that’s more about rider pleasure than podium pressure.

Isn't this a bit of a risky formula, unguided(ie no experienced and armed game guide/warden escorting you) bicycle game ride race, Wildebeest for one can be quite aggressive at times, its not like crocodile and hippo have any reputation for killing humans!?

It is very well managed.

 

All of the game is tracked, so there are plenty of route changes along the way. 

 

You come close enough to see the animals on bike, but not close enough or alone enough to be seriously in danger.

 

Kinda like an open vehicle game drive, just on MTB.
