BB compatibility

I bought a hardly used Silverback Spectra 29 Comp at a very good price. It comes with a 3x9 drive train that uses this BB: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/shimano-un26-square-taper-bottom-bracket/rp-prod34652. I would like to change the whole drive train to use the 3x10 setup from my 2012 Scott Aspect 10. This uses the Hollowtech II BB.

My question is will the Hollowtech BB fit in the Silverback? I don't want to disassemble everything and then find it doesn't fit for some or other reason.

Normal Hollowtech will fit.

if there is a difference, would that just entail getting a different Hollowtech BB? ie. will the cranks still fit?

Normal Hollowtech will work fine as your existing BB is for 68 -73mm. The spacers you get with the Hollowtech BB will allow you to use it in your existing shell... Be it 68mm or 73mm.

Thank you everyone for your advice. After a quick trip to Evo Bikes and meeting Naas, I now have everything I need to swap the drive trains around.

I'd also recommend getting the BB shell faced before you install - it'll make your bearings last longer. Just make sure your LBS has the tool before you head through though.

What is faced and would it be necessary on a bike that probably hasn't done more than 50km from new?

It's a process that makes sure the ends of the shell are square and aligned, and it's necessary of the bike has never had an external BB fitted to it.
