We agree Lerouc that it was a very unfortunate date clash between two great MTB races.

While we do try to set a date that will not clash with the date of other major MTB events, these dates are often not available at the time of decision making and thus the occasional clash is unfortunately inevitable.

If you do not mind, I can try and convince you to join our race which is for a great cause raising awareness for breast cancer which happens to both women and men. The aim of the STBB MTB Challenge is to raise funds for CANSA in order to specifically help them with the said cause.

The Bottelary Hills MTB trails are situated in the Renosterveld Conservancy and our race is the only big race allowed over the trails. The trails are described as some of the best in the Western Cape and includes large sections of perfect single track. The trails offer scenic beauty and incredible views of the Winelands, Table Mountain and False Bay with sufficient climb, especially on the 45km and 60km route, to ensure you get a proper ride.

We have a Bedouin style market at the finish line with lots of options for food and drinks after a good day in the saddle. We also have a kiddie-specific entertainment zone to entertain the kids.

Our goodiebags are like the goodiebags from the olden days!!

We offer a free breakfast tent at the start line to fuel you for the race and our water tables are superiorly stocked and, as we have heard, “some of the best in the business”.

We really hope to see you there!

Any questions can be directed to me at mtb@stbb.co.za

The 60km Route is the grand-stand event, not to be taken lightly. With 1400m of ascent and around 15kms of delightful twisting single track Nirvana.

There will be a Yokohama King and Queen of the Mountain at roughly the 27km mark with a R2000 gift voucher sponsored by Yokohama for the fastest lady and gent to reach the top!

The 45km route is an extended version of the 30km route and includes an extra 5kms of single track, bringing the total distance of single track on the route to 10kms. Riders will need to bring their climbing legs, as they can expect to climb 1096metres on the day to conquer the 3 big climbs waiting for them. The rewards however are stunning views and some of the best flowing single track in the Western Cape.

Although the shortest of the "longer distances" has been reduced to 30km, this route must not be underestimated with its 800m of ascent. The climb up the two hills on this route will however reward the riders with stunning views and beautiful flowing single track.

We have reduced our very popular short route to a beautifully new scenic 12km. The 12km route still have 300m of ascent and should therefore not be underestimated. After leaving Overgaauw on the 5km route riders continue across the neighboring farm and on to the Bonfoi estate where - after a short climb - they will be rewarded with a beautiful section of forest riding between two dams marking just short of the half way mark. Heading back towards Overgaauw the riders will be treated with another couple of dam crossings and a canopied stretch of road littered with stunning flora. After a much needed water stop at 9km and a short climb back into Overgaauw the last 3km to the finish is mostly fast, flowing and exciting riding.

The 5km route is absolutely suitable for children and this year loops around Overgaauw and the neighboring farm staying largely on jeep tracks with a little bit op open dirt road. Whilst the total distance is just short of 5km this route does have two climbs, one a little before the water point and one directly thereafter. The total ascent for the route is 103 metres.

We want to encourage parents to enter their children for a fun and safe day on the trails. We also have a kiddies fun zone at the finish line to keep them entertained while the parents relax under the Bedouin chill tents.

We also have kiddie specific goodiebags specially for the little one's.

We will also be running a Facebook competition next week where we want to encourage parents to submit a photo of their kids prepping for the race. There will be kids cycling shirts up for grabs!

This year we have decided to rather give each STBB 2Keep-A-Breast MTB Challenge finisher a very usefull BUFF instead of a medal that gets lost in a box with all the other event medals.

Our premium sponsor MEDAC | Sports Science in Motion have this year sponsored us Medac Re-usable Hot/Cold Gelpacks (300ml) for each goodiebag.

Cold - can store in freezer and use it to mold where the injury is on the person.

Hot - can warm it up by using hot water in a container for a while and to place it on the injured muscle of the person.
