St Cyprians, Cape Town’s most exciting and prestigious girl’s school, is hosting the first of its kind Mountain Bike Ride and Trail Run on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Dubbed ‘THE DASH’, this pioneer event takes place on Sunday the 18th of October 2015 and caters for the whole family. As part of this exciting Mountain biking and trail running experience, the Parents Association of St Cyprian’s have taken the school’s commitment to the community one step further.

The school has developed an authentic mountain biking and trail running route in the picturesque Van Riebeeck Park (cnr Homeleigh and Sidmouth Road Oranjezicht). Covering approximately 1km in distance, this pretty trail weaves through the park under shaded trees and over bubbling streams to offer children their very own, safe mountain biking and trail running adventure. This enduring feature of the park will be left in place for the neighbourhood and it’s visitors, to enjoy beyond the scope of the event.

The main event starts and finishes on the St Cyprian’s school grounds, surrounded by 100-year old buildings with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and finds it’s way along the well marked trails and spectacular views of the city and incorporate landmarks such as Rhodes Memorial, the King’s Blockhouse, Kloof Corner, Platteklip Gorge and the Forest Ravine.

Adult long route (30km) riders will be faced with the steep climb to the top of Plumb Pudding from the new Cecilia forest single track below, while shorter distance (23km) riders can avoid the challenging summit!

After ‘The DASH’, participants and supporters alike are invited to relax in style, and enjoy a day of craft beer, gourmet food and live music by their favourite local bands, including The Maybe’s, Early Hours and Mark Haze as well as the comedic talents of MCs Al and Pags.

Just for accuracies sake, Cecilia Forest is about 10 km away further South. Perhaps amend your post to avoid confusion? I assume you mean the newish single track that climbs up from the Rhodes Memorial entrance gate and past the SANParks offices?. That area is called Mount Pleasant.

Skip for me then. Sounds they have not done this before.

The front of Table Mountain is (I'm sure you know) a fantastic ride. Mostly jeep track, but with stupendous views. It also lends itself to a smallish or medium size mtb race. Nice steep climb from the start to string the field out. Single track only later in the race, so minimal bottle neck effect (hope I'm not proved wrong here), mostly circular route, more than enough climbing. I might just give it a go?

I'm impressed that St Cyprians managed to pull this one off because until now the Cape Epic was the ONLY race EVER on the front of Table Mountain. Let's hope this is the start of something great that will endure and grow. I think the location has HUGE potential.
