weight saving on XT group set?

How much weight would I save if I upgraded to an XT group set from a standard entry level (titan trail 2015 29er) set?

Is this a waist of time and money or would I be better just upgrading to a bike with these components and a better fork from the get go?

Was looking at the 11speed for even more weight saving and one less part to worry about...

If you're looking to save weight, groupset is probably the last place to look.

It would probably give you better performance though.

Thanks all. Tubeless is the plan for now.

In what way would the performance increase?

I know it will be smoother and possibly more durable...

Better grip, better feedback through your butt as to what your wheels are actually doing (for me at least) and easier to hold pace. I ride mostly single track with my MTB and immediately saw big improvements on my strava segments.

Got a completely new wheelset though as I managed to ruin the Alex rims that came with my Silverback.

Tubeless advantages:

Can run lower pressures, thus more grip

Faster fixing of a flat in race, ream, plug, bomb

Maybe cheaper in the long run, no more need to buy slime tubes every couple of months

Rotational weight savings where it matters most, on the outside of the rim

No more snakebites on tubes

Disadvantages:

Can be a mission getting the tyre to seat onto the rim. I did my conversion self and had to learn all the tricks. Had to use a bomb to seat on tyre, other one I could seat with a normal floor pump. I also 1st put a tube in, pumped it up, then it seated on both sides. Deflated, opened one side of the rim, removed tube, and then soap water on bead and pumped like crazy, or bomb ... Put sealant through the valve with the Stans syringe.

Sounds more difficult than it is.

Xt is bomb proof and relatively light. Much better performance than what you have.

But as said earlier, wheels are a massive weight saving, as well as tubeless and also a decent new fork. Those cheapie suntour forks weigh a ton! I changed my mrs fork and could not actually believe how heavy it was... I would say the smallest weight saving part of your bike would be components. Better wheels and a fork will improve yours and the bikes performance so go with that 1st.

Do yourself a favour and go to a bike shop or find a mate with a decent bike with xt components, decent wheels and a decent fork- you will know straight away what you are missing. You only really know what you have got once you have ridden something better.

Good luck
