I saw the heli land at Spar yesterday morning but thought it was the usual weekend road accident madness: Johannesburg - A cyclist was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after he rode into a pole on a downhill ride in the Magaliesburg mountains on Saturday morning.He sustained severe head injuries in the collision and paramedics on the scene had to call for a helicopter to take him to hospital urgently, said Werner Vermaak, spokesperson for ER24 paramedics.His friends said he seemed to lose control on the off-road downhill ride and then crashed into the concrete pole.He was taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg to be treated. The picturesque Magaliesburg mountain range, a short drive from Johannesburg, is a popular destination for cycling enthusiasts, with trails woven through the bushveld.
