HI Everyone

So I recently bought myself a new Merida Big Nine 20 and being the very social rider that I am, cannot believe that it is first service time already after only 3 weeks

Bear in mind that I only ride on weekends.

This is what I have found on my bike.

Being 130 kg, the bike is comfy as hell.  No back pain.  It can reach speeds of 50km/h plus on the downhills quite comfortably, and it could probably go a bit faster but just imagine me coming off at that speed and the momentum.....scary

Then I would have preferred a gas shock, even though the standard one is not bad.  So that is on the upgrade list.  The gear shifting is smooth, but a quicker shift would be nice.  The standard tyres are ok, but there is a tubeless conversion on some allu rims is on the horizon.

Did I waste money on this bike....I think not.  Being a novice and knowing less about bikes than Zuma about ruling a country, I would say it was a great choice to start on.  Might just decide to take her to Ballito this weekend and test her on the 25km ride........

Have a good one

I think you might be going in for your complimentary first service usually offered by the bike shops to tweak your gearing, etc and making sure your bike is running 100% after being given the chance of "wearing in" for the first couple of rides.

Happy riding! Enjoy your bike, enjoy the upgrades, and start doing little "services" on your own bike. It makes you understand it alot more and will save you $$$ in the coming months/years. Its not as daunting as it may seem. ????

Oh right.

Hey mlommies, how does the bike feel? Brakes, shifting etc. If its all good why not wash and lube the bike yourself and save the service for when the bike really needs it?

Enjoy your bike man. Look after it. Keep riding as much as you can. Don't get too hung up on upgrades just yet. But if you do. I recommend a good set of tyres before anything else.

Me as a social rider does it really worth it to upgrade from deore to slx or xt  components

The simple answer is no. If your gears change and your brakes work then what else can it really do for you?
