Shoe preference

Been using my mtb shoes for riding the mtb...hybrid and road bike...but now i have a really nice road bike and want to put a lot more effort into improving my road bike experience.

I really enjoy my SH-XC31 shimano shoes...they are still in good condition...i have done a fair amount of cycling with them...i dont have any complaints about them...when i need to replace them...the only reason i would upgrade would be to get a less slippery sole...the best part about the SH-XC31 they look ok to use on a mtb and slick enough to use for a road bike.

MY thought are to get a pair of shimano SH-R065 or RP-9...yes i am a shimano fan.

I have spoken to a few people about shoes and read a few article...like anything you get what you pay for...so maybe it would pay me to look at a better spec shoe.

any advice welcome.

Shimano R171 is a great shoe if you prefer Shimano. Using them for a while now.It looks like you in for the long run so invest in some proper now and dont look back.

the RP 9 looks great, seeing this for the first time now, but guess you can expect to pay upwards of R3500 for that. The R171 is going for about R2700.

Buy the carbon shoes, I found them to be more comfortable and they gave me better power transfer

Shimano or look pedals?...the pedals on the bike are look pedals...I take it you need brand specific cleats on your shoes...which are most commonly used...I would assume shimano as I had never heard of look until I saw them on the bike.

Was thinking about getting shimano shoes...but after spending a little time searching for shoes...there are some really awesome looking shoes out there.

today i took the time to go around and look and try on shoes and helmets...had a very interesting day and learnt a lot about helmet...shoes and pedals.

tried on a lot of shoes and helmets and asked a lot of question...thanks to

greg at cycleshere

michael at solomons

the guy at concept cycles in waterfall...sorry i didnt get your name...we also discussed saddles...very interesting chat.

all who were very helpful...thanks

what i did learn as discussed previously...is fit is the most important thing...what i found was as you reach around the R2k mark the helmets all seem to have a much better fit...

what i mean by this the helmet fits snug on your head you dont feel the plastic components like on the cheaper helmets...and of course the weight improves (lighter)

I did fit the kask helmet but prefer the slightly cheaper mavic helmet.

I also tried on the prevail...at concept cycles...very comfortable helmet...looks like it has good ventilation.

i have my mind set on 2 helmets which i will make a decision on which one in the near future and will share the reason i chose it.

Shoes...worse than a women...as for the price...best i never let my wife find out how much my road bike shoes cost.

once again...tired on a variety of shoes to get and idea of what to expect and once again learnt a lot about the sole...the straps...the 2 most important parts of the shoe....one the stiffness index and the ratchet versus velcro...movement while applying power etc...very interesting topic which i plan on doing a little more research....i found a really comfortable shoe...it looks a lot like a mtb shoe.

at least after today i have a pretty good idea as to how much i need to put in my piggy box and a much better idea of what to look for.
