So cycle lab have the bike i'm keen on, I asked if they can make the conversion for me. One of the guys their phoned me and told me he could but that I would need to purchase a new rim and Hub. Does this sound right? Im just getting back into riding and trying out single speed for the first time. I have done some reading on the subject but this is the first time I have heard of one needing a new rim to make the conversion. Thank you in advance.

If Mtb you should be able to just use a spacer kit, so same hub and Rim, no issues. If it is Roadbike, you can use the same rim and hub, some hubs are easier to get spacers for than others. It is easy to get spacer kits for the shimano type hub's, however getting Campy is a bit harder...

Please go to another store when looking to do "adventurous" things... those guys will try rip you a new one. Try: Sprocket and JackTrailheadHunter
