Buying from PinkBike Classifieds - Anyone with experience?

Good morning Gravity Hubbers,

I have also posted this in the Buyers Guide section but thought I'd post it here too as I know a lot more of you and have a feeling one of you may have bought from PinkBike classifieds or know of someone who has.

Ive seen a bike on PinkBike classifieds (Canada) that I'm very keen on. I've contacted the seller and he is happy to ship globally.

Has anyone had any experience with this and done the whole mission? Are there any VAT or Duties fees to pay this side? I assume not as it's a second hand sale?

As for shipping, is there a preferred option that is the most affordable and reliable? Should the seller mark any special instructions to make the clearance easier?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

i had a look at this a while ago... when you purchase the item complete, you get knocked for heavy duties at customs

If the bike was taken apart, then would fall into a "Spares" category thus has far less duties attached to it

Thanks Raf. Mmmm, even if it's second hand and marked as such by the seller sending it so it'll look like it's coming in as a gift or something?

I suppose I could ask him to take the wheels, bars and stem off and then send in two separate boxes. Just a bit more admin and shipping cost.

yep. You'll get knocked duties, even on 2nd hand goods. add 30% then VAT on to the purchase price...

Mmmmm, not making it worth it now :( Such a good deal too!

If I just bring in the frame 2nd hand, what are the duties +-? And is there then still VAT to pay? Silly to pay VAT on a second hand item.

No duty on frame only.

wait... Is it 30% on a full bike? I'm not sure it is... I think it may be 15% on a full bike... brain is mush today.
