Need for both front and rear Derailleurs.

Yes, that would work.

Gear cables are universal, although some are better than others.

I run a total Sram setup but found - saying it quietly that Shimano`s MTB cabling kit worked well, you can do both front and rear shifters with it.

I like Shimano stainless cables.  You can also get them with a coating on which works really well for a while, but then stars to break down and clog up the housings.
