Rouxenator Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Sometime ago I converted my road bike to 1x and it rides like a dream. I have however experienced the occasional chain drop - most embarrassingly it happened twice on the Stellenbosch Cycle tour. I am wondering what will be the best way to cure this. Should I get a chain catcher like this :http://www.evobikes.co.za/rotor-chain-catcher.html or does that only catch it from falling off on the inside? In my case the chain always hops off on the outer side. What ever I end up using needs to be braze-on as to not interfere with my bottle cage. Should I just settle for a cheap Claris FD instead?
Zatek Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I bought a chain catcher from Warren at Token. R248 +R50 delivery. I had on avg 2 chain drops per 40 km on the inside. I installed the catcher and went for a 106km ride not a single chain drop. Best R248 spend. if you are looking for something for out side drops maybe look at a chain guide instead of a chain catcher.
Rouxenator Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 Where can I get affordable braze-on chain guides? I have a clamp on one that does not play well with my bottle cage or the braze-on mounts
