By modulation do you mean squishiness and sponginess?

(Heading for the door. Remember its Friday and I am bored and talking about Shimano vs Avid on the Hub is like Catholics vs Protestants in Scotland at a soccer match.)

He he he....

Ever try braking in your car with the left foot? If your right foot can learn to do it properly then so can the left.

All this BS about modulation. Modulation is in your head, not the brake lever. No need to use the SRAM death grip when riding Shimano brakes...they are a bit more sensitive and your brain will recalibrate your fingers after just a few rides.....

Ducking...

No - I mean modulation - the ability to vary brake force applied.

Shimano behave a whole lot more like an on/off switch than the guides do which is easily variable - you have to experience them to understand how good they really are.

If you use the death grip with my guides I know what will happen - best you learn to fly before landing if you are not prepared for the sudden stop..... and even if you are prepared, you might be a bit less prepared than you think you are - especially with tires with big traction - low rolling resistance tires just slide before you can feel the stopping power... :)

Roughly translated, when you need to stop you apply your Avids, when you past the point where you should be slowing down you squeeze harder, when you about to become part of the beautiful landscape you riding on, You grab the lever because your life really does depend on it,,,,,,, this is how you vary the braking force it is directly proportional to how much *** you in.

Roughly translated,,,I use avids so I'm just not used to using so little force to stop so I overcompensate due to habit.

In short XT you can't go wrong ,,,,,as you were battle on with you avids
