Wash out

Kay, assuming your gauge is accurate. I would consider 1.8 - 2.0 bar in a 2.1 26er Monorail for a 92kg lad "very soft".

I'm 77kg and ride 2 bar in my Monorail. Any softer and the grip becomes less predictable. (something I love about the Monorail - the grip feedback feels linear).

Okes talking about running 1.5 bar and even lower are most likely tiny racers on 29ers with higher volume tyres.

The LUST Monorail front/ Crossmark back combination has been tried and tested and has been around for ages because it works over a wide range of conditions.

Yes the combo would be rubbish for downhilling and aggressive riding, but for eating miles on dirt roads or riding tar to the local trails and then hitting the general "trailseeker" type route they are a solid choice.

I have often battled with this problem. I initially used to use Mavic Larsen TT tubeless in front, found them very poor. Then switched to Racing Ralph, a lot better, however, it did wear out pretty quick. Now I use Rocket Ron in front which seems to work pretty well.

Lower pressures should help cornering, to the point the tire feels squishy. Also if your tire looks like a mud tire with blocks on the side, this is no good for cornering. The tire needs to look grippy but with a rounded profile.

My son is very good at cornering and seems to be able to ride any tire pattern without problems with washing out. He is quite heavy. I noticed that when corners, he turns, brakes, then accelerates much earlier in the corner than I do. I tend to do these things later in the corner and then lose speed. If you try to over exaggerate the early turn into the corner, this seem to help me to smooth out the cornering.

Something you may want to try as well is a dropper seat post, this helps a lot with confidence, speed and steering in moderate cornering. It doesn't do much in tight corners though.

Good Advice there, provided the tire isn't worn too much ill try riding at 2.2 or so and see how it feels

I may not be to other more experienced riders but i consider myself to be rather aggressive on the trails, especially when it comes to flowy single track so i need to be sure when i push into a sweeping corner that my teeth will make it through with me.

The fact that the combo is so highly spoken of is why i went for it.

Maybe you are just too fast for your equipment. Have you considered a special tire, like an enduro type tire. I rode with a Michelin Wild Gripper 26 upfront for a while, I felt like I could turn the bike sideways in a corner without problems. It was a bit of a tractor tire.

I was looking at the on-one chunky monkey, but it wont make any sense as i do a lot of longer distances, and to add i doubt the 2.4 will fit on the ZTR rim

Maybe a wider tyre and lower pressure. I thought the monorail was fairly ok on the back but in no means a great gripper once you start ripping through corners.

see tyres listed above...

lets not forget the WTB Trailboss and WTB Vigilante - not sure if they are around in 26er.

Unfortunately we can't get the 26" WTBs in SA anymore. And those two models are only 27.5 and 29' anyway.

Have the Onza Ibex and Canis in 26" which are selling really well.

Thanks for all the responses and comments

Ill be on the lookout for WTB's at the LBS', failing that the Onza tires come highly recommended.

Cheers
