Giant Trance SLX FD issue

I've had this issue ever since I bought the bike. Not a huge deal but pretty noisy and annoying at times. Not sure if it can be fixed, as I can not see an adjustment on the fd to adjust it apart from up and down.

The cage of the SLX direct mount fd is not aligned an equal distance away from the chainring. The rear part sits much higher above the chainring teeth, causing the chain to clatter against the bottom part of the cage when the small chainring is being used, especially so when the smaller half of the cassette is used. Towards the front it is 2mm above the teeth and towards the rear 6mm.

Is there a fix for this or is it just something to learn to live with?

Even better , take it off and run a 1x 10 set up :)

I can't drop it on the mount any more because the front part of the cage is only 2mm from the chainring teeth (should actually be at least 3mm). Somehow I need to "twist" the fd anti-clockwise slighty in order to get it even above the teeth.

The 1x10 setup will come in time, as my fitness level gets to where I can handle it! :D

I was on 2x10 .. moved over to 1x10 with a 32 nw ring up front and a 42 tooth expander at the back. will never look back. For trail riding I find it perfect

FDs can be tricky.  You need to check out what chain rings your FD is specced for. For a double they are usually designed for a large ring of either 40 42 44  or alternatively 38 40 42.  If you have the larger FD with a 38/24 rings you may get the problem you describe.  You will need to get the part number off your FD and check online.

Thanks, will get the part number and see if I can find out anything online. I have the 24/38 chainrings and the fd and chainrings are standard that the bike came out with.

So I checked the FD number M676-D on the Shimano website and it appears to be the correct FD for my drivetrain. I tried all sorts of adjustments but still can't get this problem sorted.

Anyone with any ideas?
