I did it last year, was very informal but I enjoyed it. Seems this year they are doing a completely different route on the eastern side of Stilbaai. Suspect it will be mostly gravel roads with rolling hills and some bumpy jeep track inbetween. imo nice option if you are in the area or staying in Stilbaai over the long weekend, I wouldn't suggest travelling all the way to Stilbaai just for the race.

Did the race today... Mixed emotions. Think last year was better. The 36km race was 47km. They did mention it will be slightly longer than 36km, but 11km makes a big difference.

Ran out if water on about 42km.

Wasnt a bad day out. Lovely weather and good vibe. Challenging route though.

Will I be back next year? HELL YEAH!!!

Did the 65 yesterday. I agree with mixed emotions. Not sure about the "(not too difficult)" part. Race director warned at start that the 65 varies between moderate to heavy technical. Whatever that means. If it means expect a lot of sand and rocks, and some times un-ride able sections, then he was right. That section up and down "Skerpkoppies"  was just plain mean. But it was my first more technical MTB experience. Would like some of the more experienced hubbers input.

Was good fun though. Did the Karoo to Coast in 2014, but that was tough not technical.

The guys that did the 35 have my sympathy though. They signed up for a 35 km fun ride. and ended up doing most of the bad stuff with us, with 11 km more than they expexted. Not everyone considered it a bargain getting more than they paid for.

It was very bumpy.

The only un rideable sections was the portage. Then the little hill at the end I made it up 75% and then had to push the last 30m. I hit a loose rock and had to unclip. Some of the laaities went out there with no issues.

That last stretch before the runway my seat clamp popped off. Dont know If I was better off on a hardtail or if the guys on full suspension bounced all over the show.

The cut grass "single track" made for some interesting riding with those patches of cape grass.

I said to my girlfriend if I knew it was going to be 47km I would have entered the 65km that ended on 59kkm.

I spoke to Elza and she said they had to take over the event at nr 99. If you look at their back ground in offroad motorbike events, they have the capability to make this a great event given decent time to prepare. I have no doubt that this event will be a succes with them at the helm.
