rudi-h Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 not wanting to dim the obvious positive vibes and accomplishment from this thread. just thought i'd put it out there that it's not necessarily a step in the right direction nor sensible to take on the "scary world of main roads and traffic" irrespective of the improvement you have made in terms of your confidence, balance and overall level of skill. the better cyclist I become, the more I avoid busy roads, intersections and narrow shoulder roads. I've had some close shaves which got me to a point where I have identified only a handful of routes that I risk to ride with my road bike, and yes, that means that I often drive quite far with my car to get to the start of where I deem it safe to ride. Holding your line, keeping balance and being alert is only 50% of what will keep you safe and your own actions won't count for much if the driver behind you is typing on whatsapp... enjoy the riding and stay safe out there!
