Im not talking about the obvious thing a seatpost do - i see people are always advertising seatpost and is there real diffs between the seat post you get is a certain seatpost better and if so - why

Thx this is an answer im more after but just explain the length part for me

 

On the different frames you have a safety margin on your seat tube of a minimum depth the seatpost must go in, too short a post and the frame may / might / will crack after use due to the prolonged period of time that undue pressure was exerted on it.

Therefore you get seatpost up to 400mm long to prevent this from happening.

short people's seat is closer to the frame then lets say taller people.
