Loved this event, except that my bike computer gave me an average temperature of 8.7 degrees with a minimum of 2.1.

Those first 10kms I couldn't shift gears so frozen were my fingers in my short-fingered gloves.

Also rode in only a bib and shirt. Ouch.

Will definitely do it again next year though.

Was grateful for the camelbak that kept my back warm(er), since they thought it's a fun idea for us to run all along the river, crossing it several times. Oh what we won't do for "fun"...  :w00t:  Back next year, loved it!

Also thoroughly enjoyed the race! Was lekker tough! The climb up the pass wasn't too bad, just long, but it's nothing compared to for example the Swartberg pass we did in the recent Gran Fondo!! The climb up Bobbejaan's Bult at about the 22km mark was damn hard and a lot tougher than the pass. Route markings were good for the first 55km, but from the waterpoint at the bottom of the pass it bacame quite challenging at times to follow the route. I took a wrong turn and ended up doing 1,5km's extra! Only 34 riders finished the 80km, but it would be interesting to know how many guys bailed at the split before the pass, as I'm sure there were more than 34 guys at the start.... Will defintely do it again! Added bonus - my wife took second for the ladies in the 60km

I finished the 80km, not a good idea putting some many bailing points on route. Not sure I'll do the event again, my boutique bike don't like river crossings or those loose rocky descents ;)
