[Event] Benoni Country Club Arrow Stationers 6 Hour Race

Hi Eldron

Two bits of advice

1. Never underestimate the power of those who have been there before (How many cyclists have two events in one day on their completed bucket list?)

2. Come and relax and enjoy yourself. Do a few relaxed sight seeing laps. Between the awesome race pack and the free coffee, you are at break even on your entry fee. What have you got to lose? You can recover all day Sunday  .

Have fun and safe cycling.

What is this relax/fun/safe thing you speak of?

When we race - we race to win       :nuke:

Eldron will be good to see you take the fastest lap cash

Methinks not! Dual X #1 broke me properly so my legs will be pretty fried for the 6 hour after Dual X #2 on the morning of the 9th...

Plus my GF wants me to ride Emperors on Sunday morning.

#weekendofpain hahahaha.

Benoni Country Club is proud to present its first ever cycle race. The ride will take place on a lap format. Individuals and/or teams of two or four are eligible for entry. No children under the age of 12 years old are allowed to race. Online entries at www.bikeabout.co.za. We will take late entries on the day up until 16h00, but please enter early.

The lap is an easy 8.1km loop consisting of mainly jeep track interspersed with some forest single track. The single track will be cut wide to make passing very easy and to allow both beginners and racing cyclists to ride together in peace and harmony. All technical sections have been avoided for the race.

We encourage competitors to bring the whole family along to cheer and support all cyclists young and old, fast and slow, while enjoying the wonderful facilities at the club.

If you feel that the time and combined distance is too long and far, please enter and cycle one or two or even three slow easy laps during the evening. Take a long rest between laps in the company of Mr Charles Glass J. The aim of the evening is to promote the facilities at the club by creating an event for EVERYONE to enjoy. Furthermore, proceeds will be utilised to further develop and enhance this already wonderful cycling trail facility.

Your entry fee will give you entrance to cycle the race plus a goodie bag containing a beautiful screen-printed long sleeve technical shirt celebrating the event plus giveaways of the sponsors products. The goodie bag alone is almost worth the cost of entry.

Free nutrition from FIT Nutrition will be available to all competitors as well as free coffee from Procycles all night long.

Arrow Stationers have also arranged digital cameras and computer printers as lucky draw giveaways to participants.

Thank you for your support – we look forward to seeing you on the 9th of April 2016.

Thanks Cliff, Pete and all the rest who made this a great event!

Echo that, and thanks BCC for the venue

The timing guys did lose a lap of mine  :cursing:  but no sweat, decent goodie bag, T shirt and winning a laser printer as a lucky draw (thanks Arrow Stationers :D ) more than made up for it. Generally well organized, easy flowing trail (except for section along the fence which hurt as the laps increased  :( ), ample parking, free juice and coffee for riders (thanks Pro Cycles  ) and good vibe.

Good to see Wendel on the bike again after his recent illness.

That was loads of fun!

Results are up here: http://www.bikeabout.co.za/admin/content/data/view/bar_bbc_6hour_2016_1_standings

I was also the victim of double lap theft - I think...

Results say 12 but my Garmin shows 14. The route was 8.5km right?

The rain was awesome - the track got faster and faster until about the 5 hour mark then starting breaking up a bit. Nice varying conditions to keep you alert - I had one or two moments...

Venue was cool, track was entertaining enough to keep you awake all 6 hours, people were awesome (got yelled at every lap!). I'll certainly be back next year if there is an event!

Congrats to all involved. I really enjoy events where the organisers are on hand to chat and interact - much more personal than "franchise events".

Thank you folks for all of the feedback and your support. Not a shabby first time event by the boytjies from Benoni.

I sincerely apologise for the lap theft. Our timing fella had major issues reading 3 and 4 riders plowing through the timing area together on the first two laps. Once we placed the chicane at timing zone entrance, things worked swimmingly.

A few small bugs to iron out for the next event (Yes, there definitely will be one  :) ), but overall, we are very satisfied.

I really is a pity that a 3rd of the field disappeared home during the rain, they certainly missed out on the best trail conditions later on.

We had lots of fun too.. Well done to all involved to make it work.

Also lost one of my laps, So would change our overall position into the top 10, Hopefully it's something that they will work on in the future.

Otherwise will definitely sign up for the next one

Pete - I've dropped you a PM but I'm pretty sure they nicked 2 laps from me... Which makes it interesting because if I'm credited with both laps I won the race.....

Edit: unless others were also docked in which case it's a bit of a mess :-)
