[Event] Cape Getaway Show Mountain Bike Challenge

Recommended Posts

Cannot get the Groupon purchase to complete - says there is a 'problem submitting your purchase'.   Seems that the deal has now been withdrawn, although the time available still showed plenty... :(

If I'm going to fork out R200 for this race (for which many others paid R99), I would at least like to see a rout map / profile??  Can anybody point me in the right direction for this?

Edit:  managed to get Groupon purchased - whoohoo!  Now...how much climbing did you say there was? :whistling:

Spoke to someone who is in the know, it looks like roughly 500m climbing, they start with the hills to separate the field.

Keep in mind this is not from the actual start at lourensford, i think the first 5kms was a commute there.

Will be my first time out in those parts, my first time MTB'ing, been a roadie for too long now. Hope the hills and mountain dont burn me out. *Nervous

That was my "first" event as well. I had only been riding for around 8 months prior to that. If you have some road legs you should be fine. If it is wet you will have some mud, but the single track is definitely worth it. The descent is fast and rutted, so BEWARE. There are some places you can lose it and have a nasty wipeout if you push too hard.

What a nice turn up today considering the weather. Some rain, a fair amount of mud and interesting single track made it worth it. I clocked 27km and just under 500m ascent. Bike washed already. Took me a while to get all the mud off. In fact, it took me longer to wash the bike than it took to ride 2day lol.... Now to wash the shoes.

Have a pair of mens MTB shoes in my boot - if you know of anyone who kicked off their dirty shoes under the car, forgot about it and drove off, please PM me - will also let the organisers know.

Lovely ride (except for the first 5k's or so where I kept running out of granny gears...). Oh and except half of Lourensford's soil that is now clinging to all my moving bits...
