hey this might sound petty, but can you run a SRAM x0 rear derailler with a shimano chain, shimano LX shifters and shimano cassette?

Nope you have to run Sram shifters with the Xo derailler, Shimano cassette will still work fine.

they work on a different ratio I think <?: prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Confused thats why they are not compatible I am running Xo gripshift with my Xo derailler. I know there are certain Sram shifters that work with Shimano deraillers but not the other way round.

sram works on a 1:1 ratio.  shimano is 1:2.

basically uve got to pull twice as much cable to get the sram derailleur the same distance as the shimano derailleur.

I use SRAM Rocket Twisters (Exact same as X9 Xo tiwsters) on Shimano. The rocket's ratio is different and distances between each click at the shifter is much shorter than the normal sram twisters. After feeling the new shimano operate I'm not so sure about twisters anymore. But the rocket's have been performing well on my shimano ders.

Would you like a Toyota with a Ford motor..... no I do not think so. Why downgrade by mixing in Sram. Shimano groupsets especially the new XT and XT Shadowline ranges are worldclass and may weigh slightly more than XTR but is even more dependable than XTR itself. Bicycle manufscturers sometimes confuses the issue by mixing the groupsets but it is purely a financial issue regarding the OEM deals they make.

You need only two tools. WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Yes and no:

- you need SRAM shifters for a SRAM X0 rear derailleur. Apparently Shimano has a

  different "throw" on the levers to SRAM (some Shimano shifters might work);

- you can use SRAM shifters for a Shimano front derailleur;

- you can use a Shimano (or SRAM) chain and cassette interchangeably.

I have XTR front and X0 rear using Shimano chains and either SRAM or Shimano

cassettes. My shifters are both SRAM X0.

BTW, you can also use Shimano discs with Avid (SRAM) hydraulic brakes.

But as said before you can NOT mix the rear derailure with the shifters . Front setup you can very much do what you like as we seen last week !!! (roadie derailures) Chains , blades and cassettes also does not make a diffirence

But as said before you can NOT mix the rear derailure with the shifters .

Here we have it:

"Question:

Can I use the

SRAM X.0 Rear Derailleur with

Shimano shifters?

Answer:

No, the SRAM X.0

Rear Derailleur uses Sram?s

proprietary ESP 1:1 ratio. This

means that for each millimeter of

cable moved in the shifter, an equal

millimeter will be moved in the

derailleur. This allows a greater

acceptance of off-road conditions

(dirt, water, sand, etc.) and also

gives SRAM a unique shifting

technology. Conversely, Shimano uses

a 2:1 ratio for it's shifting

systems. This means that for every

one millimeter of movement in the

cable there will be two millimeters

of corresponding movement in the

rear derailleur. The ratios are not

the same; therefore, you cannot use

an ESP shifter and a Shimano

derailleur, or vice versa."

However, SRAM do sell shifters that will work with XTR (1:2 ratio).
