Cold Weather gear

Windshell works great for winter commuting, and ski gloves, cumbersome but ok. The essential winter gear though, IMHO, is a Lekker pair of baggies. Keeps the chill off the thigh / groin area.

After many years of cycling cold,I found one should prioritize your feet, hands and neck. The thermal tops mentioned above are great and get a pair of leggings, but then these toe covers:

and a pair of reasonable gloves make an enormous difference. I picked up a pair of these little toe covers quite cheaply at the LBS and they completely change your ride. Don't worry about full shoe covers as they intended for Europe and in SA your whole foot sweats, but these little puppies make a big difference. Especially on MTB races in winter where they always feel obliged to take you across a stream in the first few kms leading to wet feet.

Simple and easy solution for your feet is cling film, wrap it over your shoes and half way up your calf... once it warms up unwrap and throw in the bin.

That is a super important part! In the bin!! Not on the trails!
