Nope fully agree with you, no reason not to enter. You are still aware of the risk and are taking measures to avoid getting caught up in it. It just comes across like many are aware or complain of the risk but at the same time wont back out to avoid the risk.

Sorry, I dont normally get involved in many conversations here but if you are complaining about the risk of crashing in a mass participation race then you shouldnt be at the race. The possibility of a crash comes with the territory of 50 odd guys moving at high speeds trying to occupy the same space... just this festive season we were sitting around the table with family and discussing that we knew my day was coming as I was yet to come down in a 5 odd years of racing. The best we hope for is road rash and no expensive bike repairs. So when I came down on sunday I knew it was not only due but its part of the risk we take lining up at the start line of race. If you dont want to take the risk then dont enter a race. Part of the risk also involves guys who are not so great at riding in a group or just doing something stupid. Well, thats my view on the risks of racing at least

Yup i went down in that and taken away in the back of the bus... 68km/h according to my GPS. Have no idea what happened, guy in front of me went down and I had nowhere to go, back tire is worn through to the carcass the way I locked up the back wheel trying to stop but at that speed there was no ways. Bumped the head pretty bad, helmet is a write of but luckily Bontrager crash warranty will replace that and realized the importance of spending good money on a lid. X-Rays cleared any broken bones but pretty banged up and booked off work this week with light duty till early March... haha I leave for TOGH in just over a week so that not going to work.

Its a tough one to navigate, your logic would then make me the winner had i kept riding and the KOM up Tom Jenkins... but personally I wouldnt accept the acknowledgment or the prizes as i know it wasnt genuine and no fault of the peleton either for being directed wrong. I would like to know how this happened though because when i asked for directions at the split there was still barricades across the road that i had to navigate to get onto the longer route

Main Elites bunch did around 90.4km @ avg +-44km/h I didnt get the luxury of missing TJ and did 96.8km * According to strava

Yup we got uitgekak for crossing the white line on the Henops road and then uitgekak again for protests against the first uitkak Then I believe the main peleton got directed on the 50km route... I had a mechanical 100m short of the 98/50km split and figured something was wrong when I got to the top of TJ in my solo chase back and everyone was looking at me like I’m leading the whole race Sorry to say for elites I found the marshaling to be pretty shoddy, I had to ask for directions and ride around barricades in the road coming up to soutpansberg road before turning on to TJ

I would be keen to join up, I ride alone there most weekends as its on my doorstep and i nice 30min warm up ride the karee kloof entrance. Cant say i have ever felt unsafe being alone though.

As far as i know that is only on the R59 coming from vanderbeijlpark side. Definitely nothing on the roads coming from JHB side. Good luck and stay safe to all, first time im not there in a few years

From what i see on the website route stays the same except for the small bit going in and out of Maropeng then turn right going past the satellites (following same route)- quite like the new route makes Hekpoort climb more involved as finish is pretty much at the bottom of the decent now
