CAPE CLASSIC STAGED CYCLE TOUR READY FOR ROUND TWO

Challenging, Superb, Organised Fun

After a successful launch in 2015, the Cape Classic 380 is set to take place from 4-6 November 2016. This is a challenging, superbly organized fun 3-day cycling event based in Montagu in the Western Cape for amateur enthusiasts wanting to kick start the cycling season, or use it as a training ride for Double Century or Full Ironman. The Cape Classic 380 is limited to 60 riders (with 2 pelotons) and consists of 380km of protected peloton riding for the entire event, ensuring a fun and safe journey for the riders involved.

The start venue is based at the Montague Hotel where cyclists meet each morning at 6:50am sharp for a 7:00am departure. A number of ride Captains will be part of the Pelotons who will be there to help set the pace, ride at the front if necessary and pull anyone who has dropped back for any reason back into the Peloton.

Watering and feeding points will be positioned at suitable points along the rides for cyclists to stock up on foods and liquids, with healthy locally sourced lunches being provided for all participants each day.

Dedicated ambulances with qualified paramedics will be following the tour for the complete event for any unlikely accidents, as well as full mechanical support.

THE 3 DAY STAGED EVENT LOOKS AS FOLLOWS:

Day 1: There and Back Again, a Koo Valley Tale

6 Nov 7:00 am Start at the Start Village (The Montagu Country Hotel, 27 Bath Street)

Riders will assemble at the start village and ride up the majestic Koo valley where the formidable Burgers and Rooihoogte passes await. The Stage will be 140km long and involve a total climb of 2228m.

Day 2: A Cruise around the Breede River

7 Nov 7:00 am Start at the Start Village

The ride will be through the picturesque Breede River valley in a loop from Montagu around Bonnievale. The stage will be 108km and involve a relatively tame 1090m of climbing. The ride will be in Peloton with 2 designated sprints points. We’ll cross the Breede River twice, once on a Trestle Bridge and once through a ford, plus going over the Groot Rivier.

Day 3: Historic South Africa

8 Nov 7:00 am Start at the Start Village

Stage 3 will take the ride from Montagu (founded 1851) through the beautiful Slanghoek valley with a mountain top finish at the top of the Mitchell’s pass. 140km of cycling with 1324m of ascending complete the tour and we celebrate our finish in Ceres.

Entries are R3600 per person and includes all food and refreshments at the designated feeding stations from local suppliers as well as our Sponsors: Power Bar, Scheckters Organic Energy Drinks and FutureLife.

Accommodation is available through the event organizers as well as masseuses to help with any niggles and/or tired legs at the end of the days ride.

To create a bit of fun and give the riders a competitive spirit, there will be 3 designated Sprint Lines and 3 King of the Mountains Pass awards to be awarded at prize giving at the end of the tour.

sounds kief!

I did the "dry run" the year before the first formal event, although nothing was dry.

It started raining the night before we set off from Montagu for the first day and it did not stop for three full days.

The riding, support, routes  and organisation were all brilliant and I can only believe  that an even better experience was had the next year as the lessons learnt would have been applied and the weather could only have been better.

I will definitely do it again when I manage to fit it into my life.
