Rider down at Modders

After the Iron Maiden concert last night, we only started riding at 10:00 this morning. As we came to the tar hill near the start, that section of the trail was being closed off. A seemingly lone rider had gone down near the big blue gum tree, and wasn't able to be resuscitated. I have no idea who he was, but RIP. Really terrible news

Speaking to the restaurant manager after our ride, a young woman had stopped to help when she saw him. There was no cell signal, so she couldn't phone anyone. She went back to the restaurant and they called the emergency response people. Unfortunately he had passed when they got there.

2 lessons to take out of this terrible tragedy: For us riders, don't ride alone, even at "busy" bike parks AND for the bike park operators: make certain there is an easy and convenient way for people on your trails to be able to call for help. In this case a cellphone tower repeater device could've made a difference.

To the fallen rider's friends and family, my condolences!

:( sad news RIP to the rider and sympathies to his loved ones.

I haven't been to Modders in a while but don't they have the EMS people there at the start of the trail during weekends.

One of the reasons I did my first aid course and level 1 resuscitation certification yearly.

Something I hope I never use but might help someone someday.

Sad news, easy to sit here now and say if this, if that.

RIP fellow rider.

Normally is, and honestly, I didn't even look for, or notice, whether they were there or not today!
