In most cases I agree with you. Majority of the time I use the DHL option but last month I bought a park tool stand from them for just over 2k and DHL want just over R1800 for postage. So I decided to add 2 tyres for my commuter and got standard postage for free. 2 weeks later I got the stand.

Hi LWB

Which stand did you buy that they asked so much postage?

Park tool PCS10.

So I have a buddy that works for DHL and I queried it with him(as he has connections) and it was because of its volumetric size. Although it comes in pieces the box is still pretty big and heavy. It's about 1 metre tall and about 30cm by 30cm. Not sure of the weight. Its like buying wheels, they light but because of the size the box is big and shipping is a bit more.

So I have just gone onto CRC now and added one to my cart just to check and I see the shipping is now just under a grand. Also checked my message to my buddy with a screen shot to make sure I had my original facts straight and I did. So not sure why it was more a month ago.

EDIT: I did look at your site but you only had the pcs9

We do the whole Parktool range. ( I know - very few items are listed!)

But we are not very competitive on PCS10 due to local pricing... Our retail will be R3395.

Yip the volumetric size explains it. Most sites are now catching up to the fact that it costs them $$ to ship large boxes so more and more large volume items will become uneconomical to purchase

Well for a local price that's not bad(I know because I priced them at bike shops). I paid just over R2400, added 2 tyres to get free shipping and then paid about R250 vat(for the stand) at the post office. Had I not got the tyres it would have been I think about R150 for standard postage. Add it all up and you only like R400/500 more. I see there are extras available, Will go onto your site and have a look and send a mail if its not listed. (specifically looking for the tool tray that attaches to the stand)

No worries

Parktool 104 Plastic Tray is R295. Parktool 106 Tray is R550.

Yesterday afternoon around 14:00-ish

Give it another day or so. CRC would have processed your order already but it would most likely go from which ever hub they had it at to heathrow today or tomorrow.

If you page up you'll see I bought a stand recently and it also came via trakpak and funny enough the original origin was brazil (I think). I was also only able to see it on trakpak after 2/3 days but I searched the CRC site and somewhere found a tacking number for my stand and then used my usual http://globaltracktrace.ptc.post/gtt.web/ to track it.

My packages are also a stand, some tools, 38C tyres, tubes, etc :)

My stand was slightly cheaper at R2225 for the PCS10, thanks to the BREXIT shake-up! I would much rather buy locally, but some local prices are completely up the tree (not to mention the variety not being available)

Thanks for the advice and tips on how to track it. Now the bloody stuff must just get here........

I actually bought some more parktool stuff last week from evobikes and the pricing was very competitive. In fact it worked out cheaper than CRC because I didn't have to pay shipping and vat. Also it got couriered to my door. Janos from EVOBIKES is very helpful, if you ever looking for parktool stuff just email him because they can get it all even if its not on their site.
