Secondhand wetsuit

A colleague wants to sell his 2nd hand wetsuit.

The size should be perfect and it has a couple of cuts but nothing which makes it unusable, should be easy to patch.

It is a Orca S2

Currently I can buy a brand new Orca S5 wetsuit from Fluid Lines for R4330. The colleague paid about R3800 for his wetsuit back in the day.

Now, two questions:

Is it worth it to consider buying this 2nd hand wetsuit?

What would be a reasonable price for us both? I have no idea where to start, 50% of original purchase price?

It depends how old the suit is, how well it was used and how well it was looked after.

The point of a wetsuit is to keep you warm in cold water. Use is enough, leave it to dry in the sun often enough and it won't keep you as warm as it did in the before. The neoprene becomes brittle over time. As a result it loses some of its insulating ability along the way.

I replace my suits every 1 - 2 years because I can feel when they need to be. Some last longer than others. I'm not concerned about cuts. Comes with the territory and they are patched easily. I'll be more concerned about the state of the neoprene itself. The colour is usually a good indicator or its condition. It also helps to take the suit which is seemingly black and stretch the fabric with your hands a little to see if it stays black.
